Funnier still, I recall an interview he did with NHL on the Fly when he found out he was selected. Asked who he would take first, he probably elicited cheers from Raleigh when he said "my good friend Cam Ward."

So, now, I'm kinda curious how this will turn out.

This is going to be a disaster. Someone has to be picked last and they won't be happy about it, nor will most anyone picked in the bottom 10.

And don't tell me players don't hold grudges. Heck, I wouldn't want to be the captains. It's a no-win situation.

Apparently, no word yet on whether Sidney Crosby will play.

Shanahan's already talked about this with the players and they're cool with it.

As one of them said, "Hell, we're still All-Stars"

Shanahan said, "Whoever's picked second figures he should have been picked first, whoever's picked 7th thinks he should have been picked higher.." and so on down the line.

Non an issue for the players

Crosby said he plans to play. Whether or not he actually does I don't know but that's what he has said. This concussion has turned out to be a lot worse than they originally thought (he was originally pegged to miss only a week). I would be surprised if he didn't play given the fact he doesn't have to worry about taking any hits in an all-star game.

This format is retarded. You're going to have teammates playing against each other (such as Crosby and Malkin on different teams) and the starters will not be determined by fan voting as is customary.

Then again, it's just an exhibition that's supposed to be just for fun anyway so I guess there's no sense in getting worked up about it. Thankfully this game doesn't mean anything like in baseball.

    Retarded?

So what if teammates are playing against each other? They play against each other all the time in scrimmages. The players (from what I've read) are relishing it because it becomes THEIR game.

Unless Crosby is 100% OK (which sounds doubtful), he won't be playing. And the fact that the all-star game is a no contact game will have little or anything to do whether he plays

    This.

I can't believe people are getting worked up over this. Oh no, I'm going to be the last pick. I guess given who posted the concern about grudges we shouldn't be surprised.

Mark, the all star game is already a disaster. What do you expect to happen, the last guy picked running around and hitting people?

Golfnut, what is wrong with teammates playing against each other? They do it in real competitions like the Olympics and World Juniors, why would a game of shinny matter?

Like I said, it doesn't really matter given that it's a meaningless game for fan enjoyment. I was just offering up my opinion.

In the days of eastern conference vs. western conference I always rooted for the east because my team is in the east so my guys played for the east. You may have rooted for the west because your guys played for the west. With this format I won't really have anyone to root for if I have two of my guys per side. It happened with the north america vs. the world format as well so it won't be the first time.

And no, I'm not worked up over anything. Was just tossing my two cents into the pile. I'd like to see them stick to east vs. west but ultimately it's all for fun.

They should divide up the sticks at centre ice - fairest way to do it.

I mentioned this on here several pages back when the format was first announced. That was the way we used to do it in the street.

Somebody called the last guy who will be picked "Mr. Irrelevant" after the NFL Draft. To me, the last guy picked here - at least in any Canadian coverage - should be called The Albert:
