Have to keep all the sush-eating suits in the platinum seats awake.

Anyway, speaking of SoCal teams, Dean Lombardi & Terry Murray are probably going to get nailed with a huge fine for their comments about the review process

    http://kings.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=550145&navid=DL|LAK|home

"When the guy in Toronto making the decisions on the goals, in Ottawa and the one tonight, wanted the G.M.'s job in L.A. and was not happy about not getting it, you have to assume you are going to get those type of calls,'' Lombardi said Wow.

But as a public service, the Globe's Allan Maki has written an apology for Lombardi

"I would like to same I am sorry the NHL and senior vice-president of hockey operations Mike Murphy were offended by my recent comments. I'm sorry the NHL has such lousy officiating and review procedures. I apologize for questioning what is already a flawed process in need of revision. I am sincerely sorry we got hosed by a bad call when there were people in South America who saw it was a bad call but could not voice displeasure with Mr. Murphy, who is in Toronto and wanted this job.

    "Thank you, with much apologies.

    Dean Lombardi

Murphy was a solid player, team leader and great guy. I ticketed him for management when his career was winding down. But he had his chances in L.A. after his playing career ended and failed. He had chances in management elsewhere and failed. I wonder why he would be pissed about not getting the GM job.

It looks as though the current Kings management is getting the red-ass as the slump continues. Replays are dicey. Every week in the NFL, what we see on replays don't seem to match the decisions coming from under the hood.

I can only say this much for the review process in one individual building: if it were really as easy as people seem to think it should be, the war room in Toronto would never, ever get involved. And when Toronto does get involved, it is out of the hands of the replay judge in the building.

The Red Wings had to believe that someone was going to claim him off waivers. Maybe he can demand a trade out of Long Island? Or maybe that's the Islanders plan all a long, trying to squeeze a pick or prospect out of the Wings. Shrewd move on Snow's part, even if they can't deal him they are playing two minor league goalies right now and could really use some kind of a presence between the pipes. Regardless, he's gone by the deadline. Too many teams needing goalies. Philly maybe?

PS -- I can't believe I just wrote "shrew move on Snow's part"

Speaking of the Wings, congrats to my boy Cory Emmerton on scoring his first NHL goal in his debut.

Before any trade Nabokov would have to go through waivers again so I would have to think that some other teams claimed him and would jump at this chance. For the Isles I think it was more perfect timing that he was there (although he's not going to report) for the picking with DiPietro hurt again and then losing one of their backups on Friday night.

I love it, with one flippant remark that took about five seconds to make, he spent about two years of my net income. Must be nice.
