Roy MacGregor article triggered a huge shit dorm in Ottawa. Good for Roy!

Ah well ... doubtful that it's a major issue with Raleigh itself. Apparently, he told either John Forslund or Tripp Tracy that the ESA had some of the best ice in the NHL.

I don't believe that for a second - not while Edmonton is still in the league - but it was nice of him to say.

Edmonton's ice is actually quite pedestrian these days. Really choppy and rutty. I think their former ice guy got hired away about 4-5 years ago, and it's gone downhill ever since.

I had heard that it wasn't as good as it used to be. But the impression I was given is that it was far, far superior to every other NHL rink back in the day.

Bottom line: As much I like Raleigh's facility, I'm not convinced the best ice in the league belongs anywhere in the Southeast Division. If it does, score one more for Gary Bettman. (*ducking*)

Edmonton's ice reputation has taken a big drop, Sam. Carolina might just be number one.

EDIT: Just saw Smash's post. He's referring to Dan Craig, who now works for the NHL. Bigger problem in Edmonton is the battle for a new rink. Oilers don't want to invest any more money in Rexall, and neither does the corporation the runs it. (It believes the team should pay.) As a result, the quality of ice suffers.

Well I'm not sure if Northlands is much of a corporation. They are basically a agricultural society that I think is over stepping their bounds. They are no better than the Oilers in demanding that they should run a new building like they do Rexall. At least the Oilers would be putting money towards the construction of the facility. Northlands is scared of being left out of the equation of a new building completely.

But you are correct EF, the ice in Edmonton is terrible. The plant needs to be replaced or at the very least overhauled. But there is no point in sinking the millions of dollars into a new plant if you are going to be building a new facility, which of course is the push now.

Good ice or bad, it didn't help the Leafs against the Whalercanes last night, losing 6-4.

Big controversy was Gleason nailing Kulemin in the face with what some of his Toronto teammates called a sucker punch. Wilson disagreed although it should be mentioned Gleason has over 30 fights to his credit, Kulemin none.

Gleason better watch out. Two teams still have a couple of games against each other

Interesting, EF. Verrrry interesting. Sidney might have been serious. Cool. Thanks for the clarification, folks. Of all the things to make a point over in the we-should-have-a-new-arena arguments, letting the ice go to pot shouldn't happen.

JR, saw that fight on NHL On The Fly. Something had to have occurred to trigger Gleason. Sure, he'll fight if need be, but Bodie and Harrison are dropping gloves these days in Raleigh. Find it hard to believe that Gleason just wanted to stir the pot that badly.

Ok, now we can dissect The Code. :)

Kulemin was involved in a ten player scrum and gave Gleason what appears to be a good old-fashioned face wash. Does that justify Gleason dropping the gloves & re-arranging Kulemin's face?

I'm more pissed about these ridiculous post whistle scrums than anything. The refs should start picking a player from one team and tossing them for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Don't want to get punched in the face, don't face wash a guy.

Gotta agree with that, Gleason is not a guy to mess with if you can't handle yourself.

I'm probably in agreement with you two guys.
