Was it "Mrs. McGrath"? I didn't hear it, but that sound like the one. Springsteen did that on his "We Shall Overcome" CD, but I'm not sure who originally sang it.

If it's the same song they just went to break on, it's "Shipping up to Boston" by the Dropkick Murphys. Also part of The Departed soundtrack.

They're going to have to make a decision between him and Lowell. They can't keep two guys who aren't producing and who aren't able to do anything but DH. A platoon system at DH is an asinine thing.

Speaking of the M's, this is some piece of reporting on Griffey. Tacoma News Tribune via hardballtalk:

Last week, when some members of the press corps asked manager Don Wakamatsu why he hadn’t used Griffey as a pinch hitter for Rob Johnson late in a game, Wakamatsu was vague.

Two Mariners players, however, weren’t. Both are younger players, fond of Griffey. Neither had an ax to grind.

So why didn’t Wakamatsu go to Junior off the bench.

“He was asleep in the clubhouse,” one player said. “He’d gone back about the fifth inning to get a jacket and didn’t come back. I went back in about the seventh inning – and he was in his chair, sound asleep.”

The other player, who knows Griffey a little better, tried to rationalize.

“He doesn’t sleep well at night, he’s away from his family, he’s comfortable in the clubhouse,” he said. “They could have awakened him …”

It’s hardly a capital offense, but it’s a telling piece of anecdotal evidence. This isn’t the Griffey of 2009. This isn’t the Griffey who can help the Mariners in 2010.

Sooner or later, Wakamatsu is going to ask general manager Jack Zduriencik for a player who can help him win more than Griffey can. And Zduriencik is going to talk to president Chuck Armstrong.

And all of them are going to ask Junior to retire gracefully. If he doesn’t, the end of Griffey’s career will come, anyway – by way of a release from the Seattle Mariners.

All that is going to happen, probably this month.

The Phillies-Blue Jays interleague series at the end of June has been moved to Philadelphia because of the G20 Summit. The games will still count as Blue Jays home games, though, so the Jays will bat last and a DH will be used at Citizens Bank Park.

NEW YORK (AP) — Global politics has upstaged baseball in Toronto.
Baseball commissioner Bud Selig announced Tuesday that the Phillies-Blue Jays series will be played in Philadelphia because of the G20 Summit.
The three-game series June 25-27 will be relocated from Toronto’s Rogers Centre to Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park because of security issues for the G20 Summit. World leaders will gather at a convention center near the Toronto ballpark.
“After reviewing all of the options with the parties and taking all of the security considerations into account, it was determined that the best course of action is to play the series in Philadelphia,” Selig said in a statement.
The game would have been ace Roy Halladay’s first return visit after he was traded to the Phillies in the offseason. It’s the lone interleague matchup between the clubs this season.

The rescheduled games will be considered home games of the Blue Jays, who will bat last, and the DH will be used.
Jays president Paul Beeston said in a statement it was an “extremely difficult decision” to move the three games.
“By moving our games to Philadelphia, we are acting in the best interests of our fans, our employees, the players and the game of baseball,” he said. “We did not want to move the games but in looking at the realities of this situation, we felt that relocation was the most prudent course of action.”

The series was expected to be one of Toronto’s biggest draws of the season. All ticket holders will receive a full refund on their tickets as well as one free ticket voucher for each ticket refunded for any upcoming home game this season, the team said.
The G20 summit will be held June 26-27 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The stadium falls within an “outer security zone” surrounding the convention center, which means that fan access to the stadium would have been detoured around secure areas.
Officials have said the summit will provide greater security challenges than the Vancouver Olympics. Toronto’s downtown area is expected to be flooded with police and other security officials.
Residents and those working in the area will have to register for access to their homes and businesses during the summit. The heightened security will begin two weeks before the event.

All jokes about Blue Jays attendance aside, the last thing the integrated security services wanted was 20,000-30,000 people coming out of the Rogers Centre to join a crowd of protesters. Or, as president and chief executive officer Paul Beeston said: "We would have been bringing people down into an area in which people aren't being asked to come to."

So the Phillies get three extra home games while the Jays lose three home games? Yeah, that makes the pennant race really fair.

If they really had to move them, why not move them to a neutral site? Aren't the Marlins playing some 'home' games in Puerto Rico this year? Why can't they move the Jays/Phils series to Hiram Bithorn as well?

per Ken Rosenthal's twitter feed: Mike Sweeney has called out Larry Larue as a liar. Apparently, during a team meeting in the clubhouse at Baltimore, Sweeney also challenged the players who allegedly told Larue that Griffey was sleeping to a fight.

This is turning into an abortion.

/insert joke about Sweeney's inability to hit anyone.

But yeah, ugh. Mariners are not handling this well.
