Jays president Paul Beeston said in a statement it was an “extremely difficult decision” to move the three games.
“By moving our games to Philadelphia, we are acting in the best interests of our fans, our employees, the players and the game of baseball,” he said. “We did not want to move the games but in looking at the realities of this situation, we felt that relocation was the most prudent course of action.”

The series was expected to be one of Toronto’s biggest draws of the season. All ticket holders will receive a full refund on their tickets as well as one free ticket voucher for each ticket refunded for any upcoming home game this season, the team said.
The G20 summit will be held June 26-27 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The stadium falls within an “outer security zone” surrounding the convention center, which means that fan access to the stadium would have been detoured around secure areas.
Officials have said the summit will provide greater security challenges than the Vancouver Olympics. Toronto’s downtown area is expected to be flooded with police and other security officials.
Residents and those working in the area will have to register for access to their homes and businesses during the summit. The heightened security will begin two weeks before the event.

So the Phillies get three extra home games while the Jays lose three home games? Yeah, that makes the pennant race really fair.

If they really had to move them, why not move them to a neutral site? Aren't the Marlins playing some 'home' games in Puerto Rico this year? Why can't they move the Jays/Phils series to Hiram Bithorn as well?

What I don't get is this: The Phils will share with the Jays the revenue from the games played in Philly.

But a couple things come to mind:

1) I'm pretty sure the SkyDome holds more people
2) I'm also pretty sure if Doc DOES pitch, it'd damn near be a sellout (50K-ish?)
3) Advance sales must have been high simply because people wanted to ensure they saw Doc.

Don't the Jays lose a shit ton of money on this deal?

Anytime Toronto shuts down even one arterial north-south, east-west street, chaos ensues in the city. See Olympics, gold medal hockey game. This time, they're shutting down about 10 fucking streets. It's a clusterfuck without a fair solution, unless MLB was willing to restructure its schedule. This is the easiest and most brainless thing to do, so Bud took this route.

If anybody has a right to really be chapped, it's the Phillies' rivals in the NLE, who will be getting three fewer home games.

Apparently that was considered, albeit briefly. From the MLB.com story:

They said they never considered a neutral site.

"I guess that was an option, whether we'd go to Cleveland or whether we'd go to Detroit or whether we'd go up to Ottawa and play in one of those places," Beeston said. "At the very conclusion of all our deliberations, the easiest was just to go to Philadelphia."

Beeston said they worked out a financial agreement with the Phillies.

"The goal was that we would end up to be revenue neutral," he said. "This wasn't a negotiation. The Phillies are terrific people to deal with. We were fortunate that we were playing the Phillies at this time, so we could sit down with [Phillies president] Dave Montgomery. I've had a number of conversations with him, starting back when it was first announced.

"As it became a little bit more definitive that it was happening, we kept him informed as to what was happening. He's got costs of putting on the games, so we've worked out an arrangement that hopefully will make us both revenue neutral.
