I hope when Strasburg does come, he brings Storen with him. That bullpen remains a little light and he'll help.

Just wait til things start to go against him. He'll have another effect in the clubhouse.

Moddy: There's a 100-inning limit for 2010 being mentioned for Strasburg. Is that a season limit, or is that 100 innings after he comes up? The discussion I heard earlier today on San Diego sports radio wasn't clear on that.

You can't win the Division or the Wild Card by May 12th, but you can already be out of it by now if you really suck.

And the longer you hang around, the more fun it is for everyone involved.

If they call him up for a home start, they might sell out. What kind of great atmosphere would that be.

Yeah, maybe it would be only one game, but one game when you still have a chance is different than one game when you're out of it.

And if he kicks ass his first game, he might sell out the next one too.

Shades of "Fenando-mania?" That can build a lot of fans.

I've seen that, too, and I'm pretty sure it is crock. I think they're thinking 160 or so. Though if they bring him up and he's, oh, 13-4 in late August and they're 2 out of the WC - they going to shut him down??

BTW: Hughes has been light out all year for the Yankees.

Because he's nominally the 5th starter and there were so many off days early, he doesn't have as many starts as the rest of the staff.

But, he's gone 7 shut out innings so far tonight and is looking to improve to 5-0.

And he hasn't been lucky. He's been dominant. And he looks very confident. This guy could be a star.

I wouldn't think so. 100 innings sure doesn't sound like much ... but I'm sure he threw what, 30 or so in spring training? Plus another 30 so far in 2010 including tonight?

I just hope they find the right balance and don't overthrow him this year as he adjusts to the bigs. The specter of Mark Prior certainly looms large here. But then again, Riggleman is no Dusty Baker. At least I hope not.

In February, Baseball Prospectus did predict the Nationals would win 82 games.

I guess this must be like what was going through the stegosaur's brain when the meteor was hurtling toward Earth.

If they were going to do that, he should have been up a while ago. Was there ever really any question that he was ready?

The Phillies have apparently hired Bill Belichick as their bullpen coach. They received a reprimand for using binoculars to allegedly steal signs during Monday's game against Colorado. And, of course, everyone else who has gotten their asses kicked by the Phils the last couple years crawls out of the woodwork to say, "Yeah, something seemed fishy about those guys."

There was never any doubt that Strasburg is the best pitcher the Nats have. If they cared about putting their best product on the field and maybe even contending, he'd have been their opening day pitcher.
They are willing to pay him $3.5 mill this year to spend the first two months in the minors so they think they'll save money 7 fucking years from now.
Had he been in the bigs from Day 1, he alone would have made them infinitely better than some of the shitheads they've been trotting out as their 5th starter and would have generated more than enough revenue to cover their sorry cheap asses 7 years from now.
Just think, if they had three or four wins out of The Man that they have gotten out of their sorry batch of No. 5s, they'd be in first place, generating some buzz, drawing maybe 25,000 a game -- or 35,000 when Strasburg pitches --instead of 18.000.
And when they miss the wild card by a game or two, think of how much playoff revenue they'll have pissed down the toilet.

But just think, Nats fans, 7 years from now your sorry ass team will save a shitload of money by having delayed his arbitration and free agency for a year. That's how fucking losers run their franchises.

Wow. Even more bitter than usual after losing another series to fucking losers?

Their fifth starter is 4-1 and should be 5-1. The problem starters have been John Lannan and Jason Marquis.
