They've managed without The Man for 6 weeks. I'm sure they can keep it up for another 2.

Also...the Nats lead the NL Wild Card race. :)

  3. Actually, the Fox game is at 7 that night, so the Nats and Orioles can broadcast and it will be on Extra Innings, MLB.TV, etc.

He is striking out a ton. All his numbers are down except for stolen bases. And nude Internet pics of him.

Jose Tabata is hitting .326 in Triple-A with 17 steals. Maybe the Pirates want to feel free to bring him up at some point. Their season is already a shit show.

Interesting blurb on the FanHouse web site ( :)) about a "Pad-Rays" World Series. Personally, if it can't be the White Sox, I'd love it:

And for all the talk of who had the best pitching staff in baseball before the season, no one mentioned San Diego. Whoops.

    Their starters? Garland is 4-2, 1.71 ERA; Richard 2-2, 3.21; Latos 3-3, 3.32; Correia 4-2, 3.97.

And Heath Bell is 2-0 with 10 saves and a 1.13 ERA.

    Now THAT's some great pitching.

As a fan, I'm thrilled to see how well they're doing, and the pitching definitely has potential to keep this going, but man, I look at the roster beyond that and I just can't help but think the bubble is going to burst at some point.

If it doesn't, and the Pads keep it up all season, I'll be more than happy to be wrong.

Latos is impressive and Correia is simply matching what he did a year ago, but the other two are pitching a little over their heads. Richard is not bad, but that 1.50 WHIP is going to catch up with him. Garland is a solid veteran, but he is due for a correction as well.

Apparently they're using aluminum bats in Toronto tonight.

Yeah, I tend to remember a similar out-of-nowhere start by the Nationals in 2005 and by the Reds a few years after that. The Padres' pitching is excellent and the team will play around 100 games in extreme pitcher's parks this season --- 81 games at Petco, plus roughly 10 each at Dodger Stadium and AT&T Park --- so they've got a good chance to sustain their pitching prowess. But I just don't think they've got the offense to win big over the long haul.

It seems Jarrod Saltalamacchia has Mackey Sasser disease

Hell, Rich Harden couldn't do it the other direction last night.
