Those black calls will get you in trouble every time ...

The good old schizophrenic Phillies are back.
From May 1-17, they scored five or more runs nine times in 14 games, and nine or more runs five times.
Since beating Pittsburgh 12-2 last Monday, they've been shut out three times, scored one run twice, and were almost shut out a fourth time (Sunday against Boston, when they scored three in the bottom of the ninth in an 8-3 loss).
Seems like it's all or nothing. I know having Rollins on the DL hasn't helped them, but there's no way a team with a lineup that stacked should be that inconsistent.

That's what happens when your lineup is centered around a non-elite player like Ryan Howard.

That happens when you face studs like R.A. Dickey and Hisanori Takahashi on consecutive nights.

So apparently June 4th isn't the night of Strasburg's debut. Rather it'll be somewhere between June 8th and 10th against Pittsburgh. Have fun next Friday, Nats fans!

Actually, I think Buehrle's comment is as bad, if not worse, even though he didn't have to be bleeped.

Definitely disappointed at the potential "change" in date, but I still think it's June 4. Not as confident as I was two days ago, but still confident.

Think they're throwing a changeup on everyone, just for shits and giggles? Maybe get people to buy games against the shit ass Pirates, too?

BTW, I think this article by Boswell today is nothing short of brilliant. Really, his best piece in years.

They'll start him on the 9th and note -correctly - that they never, ever one time said June 4. That was all the big, bad media.
But their silence was pretty loud. Yuk yuk yuk. Let's sell that one out and then announce the real date.

So therein lies the question: If the media keeps repeating/guessing incorrect stuff, does the team have any obligation to step up and say, "No. That's wrong?"

    They're not obligated, no.
    Would it be nice? Yes.
Will their silence piss off a lot of people? Yes.
Will there be an announced crowd of 35,000 with about 14,000 in attendance? God, I hope so.

The Rizzo honeymoon is over if The Man doesn't start June 4. Just a dick move even if he's under no obligation to correct media reports.

Those numbers are frequently cited, but they are talking about the stats of at-bats that ended on those exact counts.

I'd like to see the numbers for at-bat that *reached* that count, not necessarily ended on it, before I get too excited about them.

I got about halfway through before I stopped caring. Could that column have been any more boring? Jesus.
