It's Carver already scheduled for a makeover? I thought I read they have the money in place for it.

I realize Arkansas basketball is no longer important on the national level, but the soap opera currently surrounding the team is pretty damn funny. Immediately after the Arkansas/Georgia SEC tournament game, rumors started to swirl that Rotnei Clarke was considering transferring. Lots of noise that there has been serious pressure on the AD to get rid of Pelphrey. This has to be the most spot on rumor leaked by a person on a fan-based message board:

3/15 at 7:37 AM posted on an Arkansas Razorbacks fan message board: " [Arkansas AD] Jeff Long has drawn up a statement and given [John Pelphrey] strict instructions to do whatever it takes to get a certain player to read it today as if were that player's own words."

3/15 at 10:20 PM posted on ArkansasRazorbacks.com, the official U of A website:

FAYETTEVILLE - The following is a statement from Arkansas shooting guard Rotnei Clarke.

"Contrary to a local television station report over the weekend that I was 'seriously considering' transferring, I wanted to make clear to the Razorback fans that I will return to play basketball for the University of Arkansas next season. It has never been my intention to transfer. I am looking forward to working with Coach Pelphrey and the rest of my teammates this off season to improve individually as well as a team for next year. The University, coaches and fans have supported me since I came to Arkansas and I look forward to competing for the Razorbacks next season. My family plays a huge role in my life. With my sister attending the University as a member of the volleyball team and my family living close by, Arkansas has become home."

Carver is getting a makeover. I dodged pieces of fallen tile yesterday when I went there for the Lickliter-firing press conference.

Ernie Kent's officially out at Oregon. Nike will throw a ton of money at this hire because there's a new 12,500-seat arena, with a $16 million nut and high jacked-up ticket prices, they have to fill and they can't come close to meeting that nut on the 7-8K fans a game they draw now.

In some ways this is an awesome job and in other ways it's a miserable soul-sucking position that any coach worth a shit should run far, far away from. The money and the facilities are great, but the expectations are off the chart to the point of being unrealistic.

    Who you like here, Micro?

I've not read much on it, but somebody mentioned Jamie Dixon and I just had to snort. First off, yes, I know Pitt plays in Pittsburgh ... but it ain't like he's living in a burned-out former steel mill and the only thing he's doing there, year after year, is kicking ass and taking names in the best conference in the land. He didn't even sniff Arizona last year ... but he's gonna chat with Uncle Phil?

I've said it before, Mark Few could murder a prostitute at halfcourt in a nationally televised game and not be convicted by a Spokane jury, so he's got it too damn good to leave, IMO.

Outside of Randy Bennett, I can't think of a regional candidate that makes a ton of sense, and you're gonna lose the press conference on that one, so I think he's an no-go. If it's P.J. Carlesimo, the Pac-10 would get a huge boost in its quote quality, so that'd be nice.

    Will be interesting.

The Record and Star-Ledger both reporting that Bobby Gonzalez has been fired at Seton Hall.

Shocking that Gonzo has worn out his welcome, again.

Ledger also reporting that Rutgers is keeping Fred Hill -- bad move.

They owe him close to two million.

    Gone-zo.

  11. Let's see if St. John's is the other shoe. Pecora, Doherty and McCaffery would be in the mix for both.

What happened at Seton Hall? They dismiss a player on Sunday, lost in the NIT on Tuesday and the coach is canned on Wednesday with quotes alluding to the decision not about wins and losses.
PJ would make more sense here I think, than Oregon. He's going to look like warmed over leftovers in Eugene. Why not hire a coach who hasn't been canned before?
And while I'm certain Oregon thinks they can draw a top coach there - what coach is going to want to go from the big cheese wherever they're at to number 4 behind Phil Knight, Bellotti, and Kelly? Randy Bennett would be a good hire, but I think Duck fans expect someone in the Jay Wright/Jamie Dixon level. Mark Turgeon wouldn't be bad.
