Al Dillard and he was a fucking gunner. He'd let them go from the snout of the hog at midcourt and bury them.

They had a big guy who could shoot threes too. Can't remember his name, Dwight something.

Those teams were a lot of fun to watch.

I had math teacher in high school that was a bench warmer on the 89-90 Arkansas final four team. He told us some great stories about his time as a hoops player. The two I can remember were how he wrecked his GPA during the 89-90 NCAA tournament because he didn't go to class once during the tournament. The other was about his one and only professional game in a Mexican pro league.

My one memory of Arkansas' barn is when USC -- I'm a Trojans fan, watched all their games as a kid -- went to play a non-conference game the year Kimble, Gathers and Lewis were freshmen. The Trojans beat a very good Hogs team, and it was Arkansas' first non-con home loss in, like, 60 games (give or take a few). Shit fell apart for USC after that. Kimble and Gathers left for LM, Lewis went to Pepperdine, and USC went back to its attitude of mediocrity.

Barnhill Arena was an absolute hellhole for visiting teams. Still the loudest college hoops arena I've ever been to.

One of my favorite moments was Kentucky's first visit after UA joined the SEC.

Rick Pitino came out of the locker room during pregame and the Arkansas band stopped whatever song they were playing and immediately belted out the theme from The Godfather. Pitino laughed and pointed at the band. The place went nuts.

For a coach who is about - not that is about.
And that fourth bid is far from sure now.

Greg Graham is fired at Boise State. Too bad, I know a guy on that staff.

Gene Cross "resigned" at Toledo. Know a guy on that staff too.

Ernie Kent still hasn't been officially fired at oregon, but they've been busy down at the Lane County Court House with half the football team.

Yeah, why don't you ask Sidney Moncrief how his one-and-done college coaching career at Arkansas-Little Rock worked out. He went 4 and 24, and the coach who took over the next year - with the same group of players - won 18 or 19.

I am somewhat encouraged by the idea that Corliss coached last season at a no-name juco. That at least seems to indicate that he's serious about wanting to coach basketball.

This doesn't really go with anything I've read on this thread, just throwing it out there. Why doesn't Quinn Snyder ever seem to be in the mix for another college head coaching gig?

Because he got Mizzou into NCAA trouble, he did much there -- never finishing higher than 5th in the Big 12, he lived in Coach K's wake, and he is almost universally thought of as a dickhead.

If anybody in charge at St. John's has half a brain they'll just drive up Hempstead Turnpike and grab Pecora away from Hofstra.

As are a lot of coaches that end up getting re-hired somewhere else after getting let go. Snyder deserves another chance as much as anybody else. Maybe not at a BCS-conference school, but definitely at one of the other mid-level programs.
