If NASCAR wonders why it needs Danica Patrick to give it juice, you can look at this abortion of a Great American Race.

And why were the announcers making such a big deal that no one was leaving? Of course they weren't -- where in the hell did they have to go? The only reason people leave a race en masse is because of rain, or to storm the IMS ticket office for refunds because all but six cars pulled off the track before the first green.

Aside from a track that was falling apart, I'm not sure what else you could have wanted out of the race. Passes all over the place and a great finish.

Ironic that Earnhardt/Ganassi (McMurray) held off Little E on that last lap, IIRC.

The Wicked Stepmother cracks a smile.

Bigger restrictor plates, spoilers, and bump drafting...fans and drivers are happy as shit. This is going to be a fun year to watch NASCAR.

That was awful. My idea of exciting isn't watching drivers wreck each other because they can't control themselves on restarts.

My lasting memory of the 2001 race is always going to be DW asking, "Dale's all right, isn't he? I guess he's all right."

One more lap and Junior might have had it.

Darrell Waltrip is an unapologetic Dale Jr. supporter. Him screaming "Go Junebug" is nothing new, and I expect nothing less of him. And I'm fine with that. I'm in the minority, but I love Darrell as an announcer. Then again, I loved him as a driver. He's a fun dude.

I could not possibly be happier for Jamie McMurray. Great, great guy, who despite being literally pushed out of an frenzied autograph signing event by his publicist, made time to talk to this Podunk journalist.

Great story. I'm happy for him, too. Genuine emotion there at the end.

And as long as it wasn't Kyle Busch, it's all good. :)

Should they try to spread the drivers out on the restarts? Make a mandatory 15ft. until the green flag?

yes, it's Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, very tight 1/4 mile-almost impossible to pass so you wreck the guy in front of you, alot of fights and alot of history though, home stadium for Wake Forest football until 1971
