First person I thought of when I saw the pic was indeed Bruce Martin, LOL.
And indeed it's no surprise. But I'm betting Mayfield shouted with glee when he heard the news.

What? Nothing about this race going to green-white-checker for the third time?

Throw enough darts at a board and eventually you'll hit the bullseye.
I'm just amazed that, even after hitting the wall, Jimmie Johnson didn't find a way to finish fourth.

As far as plate races go, this was a pretty good one....for about 95% of it. Competitive, good racing all through the pack, the new config (spoiler) seems to agree w/ 'dega. But.....3x green, white, checkers, though? Hate it.....HATE it...

Thought this was gonna be Juan Pablo's day....

I gave up on NASCAR quite a while ago. I thought the rule was one try at the green-white-checkers....when did that change? Or was it ever an actual rule in the first place? Or is it yet another case of NASCAR making a switch in mid-stream just because it can?

    Gawd I hate the cocksucker.

  7. Any one of the Top 5 to win would have been OK by me.
Havrick's move at the end was sweet.

Talladega is a weird place for the extra green-white-checkers. On the one hand, you're lucky to get through any of the restarts without a wreck because everybody is bunched up and going balls out. On the other, the type of racing is so chaotic that it actually gives you more of a "true" winner than a straight green finish would. At Talladega, you don't win the race so much as lead the last lap. Having all of the restarts keeps those wild charges to the front to a minimum.

It's worth noting that the top three finishers sandbagged at the beginning of the race. Jamie McMurray simply pulled over and let the pack go by.

I'm fine with that strategy, though. Enough front-runners did it so the likes of Michael Waltrip and Regan Smith could swap the lead.

I'm sure it wasn't his reason for saying what he said, but when Jeff Gordon said he was "pissed" at Jimmie Johnson in his post-race interview, I'm sure he gained a whole new legion of fans.

Jimmie Johnson is among the worst restrictor plate racers out there. Seems like he's always causing a wreck at Daytona or Talladega.

If Jimmie Johnson think s that Jeff Gordon is a pussy, he may be in for a rude awakening.

Whether you're doing it intentionally or not, it's going to happen.
My wife likes Brian Vickers. At one point he was seventh and I started to tell her that. I said, "Vickers is ... eig- ... nin- 11- ... He's 12th."
It literally happened that fast, in a span of about five seconds. He got caught out of the big pack and it was like he was sitting at a stop light while everyone else zipped past.

It sure seems like AP has been missing Mike Harris something fierce in terms of racing stories. I've noticed quite a few basic errors this year. Last week they had a story about Dale Jr. being upset with DW for letting the cat out of the bag in regards to Jr. driving a No. 3 at Daytona. The AP story called him Daryl Waltrip.
Maybe it was meant to invoke a reference "The Bob Newhart Show" with the brothers Daryl. ;D
