I'd rather see Atlanta keep the spring race and move Darlington back to Labor Day like God intended.

I'm with you there, Dixiehack. Pocono is as close as they get to the NYC market, so I can't see them losing a date. Nor Michigan, seeing as that's the auto industry home base and all. They could drop ALL the races in California and I'm not sure anyone would notice.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't that give you a Michigan race in June, races at Chicagoland, Kentucky and Indy in July followed by another Michigan race in August?

    I'm correcting you. :D

Chicagoland is moving to the Chase in September and out of its July date.

If that happens, I wonder if they'll either just ditch their IndyCar race entirely (which would be interesting since Tony George helped build the track and up until recently shared ownership with ISC and Dale Coyne ... but the IRL/ISC relationship has been less than frosty recently), or moving it into one of the holes in Indy's June/July schedule.

No problem. I'm still a little touchy about the single event that changed me a NASCAR fan to an observer.

Pocono's also got the odd quirk of being independently owned. All the other races that have moved have basically been ISC and SMI switching dates around. For Pocono, that's not an option. So unless NASCAR out-and-out takes a date from Pocono (which I believe the Frances have said there's no way in hell will happen) it'll keep its two dates.

That Darlington does not have the Labor Day race is both a slap in the face to the Pee Dee region of South Carolina as well as a sign of just how out-of-touch NASCAR has become with its fanbase.

The Labor Day race in Fontana hasn't drawn flies. Darlington probably wouldn't have issues selling out the same date well in advance - even in this economy.

Hint to NASCAR: Bring back the Southern 500. And leave it alone this time.

Watching the Braves game. Just saw an ad where the musical entertainment at the Oct. race at Charlotte is Foreigner.

Foreigner? At a NASCAR race? In Charlotte? Are you kidding me?

While I grew up listening to Foreigner, they aren't NASCAR entertainment.

I can remember when T.G. Sheppard and Lee Greenwood were the NASCAR musical community.

I can just see me going to race with my dad this October and Foreigner is playing before the race:

"Who in the hell are them longhairs?"

    "That's Foreigner."

    "No shit."

UPDATE: It's actually at Atlanta on Labor Day, not Charlotte in October, but everything else still applies.

  11. There was an article on NASCAR.com that said Darlington was perfect example of a one-race venue.

The tickets have been overpriced since they built "Club One," took out the backstretch seating and put up an RV parking lot. All of this was preceded by the tornado that struck the track. I have a friend who comes down for Atlanta races, and while we have fun, I hate paying that inflated price, especially since most of our fun is in the tailgating.
