You keep saying this, and so does Mike Golic, but I don't think I buy it, and there's no proof of it.

Did they say that about Lou Gehrig? Did they say it about Mickey Mantle? Do they say it about Derek Jeter? Paul Pierce? Kobe Bryant? Guy Lafleur? Could Bill Cowher hold Chuck Noll's jock? Could Jimmy Johnson hold Tom Landry's?

And if you want to stay in the same city: Could Ara Parseghian hold Knute Rockne's? Was the talk after the Blackhawks title that Patrick Kane can't hold Bobby Hull's jock?

All of those guys seem to have fairly secure legacies. My feeling is that Chicago wants to transcend the Jordan Era and become a franchise like the Celtics or Lakers. NBA royalty, in other words, rather than the Edmonton Oilers of basketball.

Actually, the Sacramento Kings are going to shock the world:

In an unprecendented move, the Detroit Lions have signed James as their next quarterback.

This whole thing is a joke. And the ESPN involvement? Color me shocked.

Cowherd just offered a thinly-veiled reference to the Delonte West hittin' it chatter -- as to why LeBron would have a hard time coming back to the Cavs.

If momma just stuck with giving out Hummers she wouldn't be in the family way

I can't help but wonder if this deal hasn't been in the works for a long while, explaining the constant build-up by ESPN in the past months-feels-like-years. (Other than, you know, ESPN is just full of douches).

I hope a beat writer for the Cavs scoops the WWL.

I bet David Stern has his fingers in this also.

I have a feeling that this will be the start of a trend when it comes to these free agent announcements. I'm shocked it hasn't happened yet, to be quite honest, considering most big-name college recruits announce on ESPN News or hold a press conference at their high school.

The Clippers made a special jersey to announce the signing of Jerome James.

Well, LeBron is obsessed with Jordan. When the Cavs play in Chicago, he even goes to the same steakhouse where Jordan would go after home games and sit in his table and has the same waiter than always helped Jordan.

Most of your comparisons are pretty bad. Landry was doing badly when Johnson pushed him out. Mantle spent a couple seasons being heckled because he wasn't Joe D. Kobe? More than a decade had passed since Magic had retired and the Lakers always had more than one superstar. He was also traded for right out of high school and came in with fairly low expectations. Hell, they only had to trade Vlade Divac to get him.
