If Rudy Gay gets a max contract something is wrong.

Interesting story on the handicapping of the LeBron Sweepstakes.

He'll get paid by someone. He's a RFA and I don't see the Grizzlies keeping him. I think that's why they traded for Ronnie Brewer. Looking at Gay's stats and age, I wouldn't think it'd be horrible to sign him to a big deal. I don't know if he's worth max dollars, as I don't watch a lot of Grizzlies games, but they were decent this past season.

I'm not buying any of this nonsense. LeBron James take less money so a team can sign someone else? Well. heck, he could do that in Cleveland.

The entire logic behind the salary cap was to prevent one or two teams from stockpiling all the talent (see, New York Yankees). Not buying that this will come to pass.

I can see Bosh to Chicago, with Wade staying in Miami and James staying in Cleveland.

The biggest overyhyped story/situation in years. Decades even.

I was hoping they'd all signed last night when I was asleep so I could forget the whole thing until, you know, basketball season.

How is it overhyped? This free agent class is going to alter the balance of power in the Eastern Conference for years to come.

Yea. They're going hard after him. He could still re-sign too. Its very overhyped is what I'm saying unless guys actually leave money on the table, which is unlikely as history has shown.

No, the Cleveland Cavaliers couldn't sign someone else if LeBron stayed in Cleveland. LeBron isn't really taking much less money per year if he signs with Chicago or Miami. He's just taking one less year guaranteed on the end of the contract. 5 year v. 6 year contract.

The Salary cap is projected to be around 56.1 million next season. The Cavs had 83.3 million in payroll last season. Take off Shaq's 20 million and lets assume they renounce the rights to Jawad William's 750k contract and don't resign Zydrunus Ilgauskus. If they resign LeBron, they will still clearly be over the salary cap.

For the Cavaliers to be able to sign someone under the salary cap, LeBron would have to sign for some ridiculously small amount, which isn't gonna happen. Even if LBJ signed for the minimum, they still couldn't afford to offer someone a maximum contract.

Sign and trade can work. And according to Brian Windhorst, the Raptors covet a few Cavs players.
