OK, so it appears the Heat will have nowhere near the collective talent of the mid-80s Lakers.

The stars are a wash (Heat's younger but nowhere near as playoff tested/proven), and remaining 9 are advantage, Lakers.

So what makes the Heat everybody's favorite team to hate, all of a sudden? Is there a roster full of gun-toting drug addicts, rapists, wife-beaters and thugs that I missed somewhere?

And what makes any failure to win an NBA title (which Kareem/Magic/Worthy failed to do in 1983-84-86-89) a catastrophic embarrassment?

Well, Roethlisberger has nothing to do for six weeks this Fall.

    Oh for god's sakes.

Stern would never allow it to happen, and Knick fans would torch the Garden if it did. That franchise has got to be removed from Dolan's hands.

Donnie's next move is to invite Stephon Marbury to get back in the truck.

I haven't really cared about the Knicks in a while, and and wrote them off the day they hired Isaiah (I remember debating it with people here who kept telling me about his drafting gifts, as though taking Damon Stoutmire meant that he wouldn't suck as a GM - how wdid that turn out). I actually like the Lee trade a lot, and think that Felton is a pretty good chance to take if D'Antoni thinks he's the guy to run the offense (and a low risk audition), but the day THomas is entrusted with any personel moves is the day I sign up with the crazy Russian.

Outstanding stuff from Brian Windhorst at the Plain Dealer.

I can't get enough of the nWo/Miami Heat comparison videos on YouTube.

That welcome party they had, for one.
Hilarious how determined you are to keep these guys' names out of the muck.

Easy Explanation. BTE slept with James' mom too.

    Interesting article.

So, will teams (and do they have any ability to) try to keep their players from joining Team USA to prevent this kind of thing:

Does anyone think there's credence to the idea floated earlier that James tanked the playoffs to make his departure to Miami easier?

At the very least, it doesn't seem like it was his main focus.

I thought this was interesting too:

YF, I do not see how teams could interfere in any way with a player who wants to play for the national team. The blowback if that effort became public would be ferocious. Besides, there is more than one national team with NBA players on it.
