I really shouldn't comment, because I am biased.

I think Triple H is a piece of shit. Always has been and always will be.

He is everything that is wrong with this industry: A guy who got his push because of who he hung around with, became a star through the use of steroids, kept being a star because of who he married, and continually stood above the glass ceiling, pushing good, young workers down because of jealousy.

Paul Levesque is a decent worker and a pretty good heel. But he was the ultimate opportunist.

No offense Handsome, I've always respected your opinion(and I still do) but I have to disagree with you on HHH having major success because of who he married.

HHH is a hard worker, which led him to be a main-event wrestler. He also had the look(yes, he took steroids) he's a better then average wrestler and he's really good on the stick.

Every time someone says that he's only got success because he married the bosses daughter, I reply by saying what if it was Chavo or Funaki instead of HHH, would of they won the same amount of titles as Paul did? I highly doubt it.

Thing is, HHH had most of the tools to be a success and he worked hard. But what got him to the top, and kept him there, was politics, and his marriage.

He was the only lower-mid-carder in the Kliq (Waltman was more upper-mid-card). Then he teamed up with Michaels, who arguably had the most sway in the locker room. That put him up there, then he went higher once he hooked up with Steph.

The issue that I always had with HHH was that he was always the one to save the day, especially with his sledgehammer. A guy who singlehandely destroys 5 guys (Spirit Squad) is not realistic. But HHH did just that.

Well, to be fair, the Spirit Squad sucked.

Also, to the point above, how do you know Funaki wouldn't have been a great success if he married Stephanie? He was evil.

    Indeed.

Well yeah, the SS sucked. Big time. But my point was that 1 guy shouldn't be able to beat 5 guys, unless that 1 guy is someone huge like Andre or Big Show and the 5 guys are all jobbers.

Well, FWIW, the SS is 4 jobbers and the current IC champ...

Also, this just kinda baffles me now because I wasn't watching wrestling during the Kliq era, but Waltman higher on the card than Helmsley? Wow. [/perpetualXPachaterbutstill]

I think McMahon is the common variable there though, not HHH. Before the Attitude era hay-day, Hulk Hogan was bodyslamming King Kong Body with taped ribs, and I think he won the 89 or 90 or 91 Royal Rumble despite it being 1 on 3 or 4. And with HHH gone the past year or so, we've seen Super Cena at several points. McMahon likes having an "overcome all odds!" face, and unfortunately for HHH's rep, his power seemed to arise at the same time. Because of how he came to power backstage (marrying Steph), there will always be the appearance of impropriety, regardless of how hard he works.

I think it's more like that HHH amplified and supported McMahon's own booking style and preferences. It's been said that McMahon likes big dudes, and HHH fits that category. It's not like family alone makes you infallible, since Shane McMahon isn't with the company any longer (by his own choice, which is annoying to me, since he's by far the best McMahon performer).

X-Pac was a big deal for a while, since he was the first WWE guy to use a style that would evolve into what RVD does now. The moonsault, the karate kind of kicks, and a smaller guy who could fly around a bit. He got a fluke victory when he was still the 1-2-3 Kid over Razor Ramon, and IIRC, he was a solid midcard guy (a la MVP now) while HHH was still seen as a jobber.

I agree, HHH was a mid-carder when he first joined the WWF, but you got to admit that he worked his butt off to become where he is. I don't believe that backstage politics/marriage to Steph had much to do with him going to the top like some people believe. HHH had "it" to become a star, and just worked hard till he got there.

In other words, you guys don't believe HHH would be main event if he never married Steph?

    Main event? Yes.

The most dominating force in the WWE for about 8 years? No.

Where the heck are the matches?

I flipped it on a half-hour into it, and so far, all I've seen is one "match" if you want to call it that, where Madison Rayne and Tara/Victoria pull the Fingerpoke of Doom crap.
