    Gladly.

Swagger comes out for a State of the Championship address, then Cena challenges him and even puts his title on the line. Orton comes out and suggests to Cena that maybe Swagger would want to face him (Orton pinned Swagger last week in a tag match). ShoMiz come out to the ramp and ramble, then some NXT dude (the guest host) joins everyone and books Swagger/Orton, then Cena/Batista vs. ShoMiz for the tag belts.

After this, Orton tries to RKO Cena, but Cena pushes him into Swagger, who receives an RKO instead.

    Cena-Batista pairing? Yawn.

Now, that's nice. I bet Orton got some cheers? That dude is my favorite.

Orton has received a ton of cheers lately. He's a full-fledged face at the moment...Cole gushes over him. If they tweak that a bit and use him as a tweener, it'll work out extremely well.

Oh man, now I have to watch your stupid NXT show to see why Otunga did it.

Oh wait, no I don't. Nice try, though.

Orton's done well with the tweener role so far. He's not smiling or clapping hands with the fans. He essentially is still acting the same, only he's doing it to the heels.

Plus we get the pose, which is always a plus.

*watching Impact on the West Coast* I'm pretty sure Tenay just referred to Kurt Angle as Curt Hennig...?

So the fiancee and I were watching Raw tonight and discussing Dibiase's apparent push into a purely heel direction when it got me thinking.

I can't think of one main event star in the WWE now (or ever really) since Hogan to break big without starting first catching fire as a heel.

Rock, Austin, HHH, HBK, Taker, Orton, Cena, Batista, Jericho, Punk all fit this bill.

Am I missing any? When's the last time someone started (and stayed) as a heel and worked his way up to mainstream main-event respect from the fans?

I have this theory that all the newbies that have the potential to rise start off as heels because the WWE knows fans won't respect wrestlers until they recognize them for a while.

    Your thoughts?

Unless I missed something in ECW, Punk was a face in WWE until his current turn. And Jericho started as a face when he came over from WCW, although he certainly played the heel there (and has made several turns back and forth since).
Back in the day, Savage was a face until he turned on Hogan. I'm not sure the Ultimate Warrior ever had a heel turn.

Yokozuna started as a heel and stayed that way. I don't ever remember him being a face, even when he and Owen were tag champs.

I don't remember Mr. Perfect or Ted Dibiase ever being faces in the WWE. Dibiase is closer to a face now, via the nosatalgia route and an appreciation for his ability to play the heel, than he ever was during his in-ring career.
