Nailed it. Cabrera probably can't repeat what he did last year on a consistent basis, and the Royals didn't have a spot for him if they wanted to bring up that prospect whose name I'm forgetting.

    Sanchez is a nothing-special back-of-the-rotation pitcher.

Kind of a nothing deal, imo. Didn't really hurt either team.

Classic case of paying too much for a career year for the Giants.

Clears a spot for Lorenzo Cain in KC. They also have Wil Myers, a top 15 overall prospect, due up by the end of next year, though he's more of a LF/RF.

    Cabrera isn't very good.

The Giants are "paying too much" by giving up a head case who walks five guys per nine innings, was hurt last season and is in line to make well north of $5 million through arbitration?

Word is that Cleveland is going to increase payroll by $20 million or so this offseason because they feel they have a window open now. If they can get Ubaldo\\\'s head turned around and find the Carmona of two years ago they just might. Ubaldo, Masterson, Carmona, Tomlin and Lowe is not a bad rotation.

They are supposedly looking at trying to get BJ Upton in a deal, or make a pitch for Carl Crawford. Would not be surprised if they were in the running for Fielder, either.

Also wouldn\\\'t mind McLough or Xavier Nady in Cleveland, along with a decent backup infielder.

Finally, want them to sign Arthur Rhodes because Cleveland is one of the few teams he hasn\\\'t played for. Think he should shoot for every team in the league.

They could have gotten Cabrera for less, so yes.

Just saw that the Twins fired Bill Smith, Terry Ryan back as interim GM. World Series 2012 - or at least a first-round sweep at the hands of the Yankees.

Were the Giants seriously considering non-tendering Sanchez? He's about to enter his 6th-year arbitration, which is usually a decent payday.

The Giants proved you can turn a nobody (Ryan Vogelsong) into a serviceable starter in the NLW.

Just think a team so starved for offense (and specifically a power bat) would try for something better than Melky Cabrera.

They were down down down on him and did not want to get stuck paying him if, as expected, he wasn't going to win a spot in the rotation. (This means Zito is probably in heavy pencil as the #5 guy.) Under those circumstances, and given their desperate need for any position player who can hold a bat at the major league level, I really think they did pretty well.

Sanchez does have a no-hitter to his credit, but can be a bit erratic. Cabrerra adds a bit of pop to the Giants' lineup. This is one of those deals that could help both clubs. OTOH, it does, for the time being, cement Zito as SF's No. 5 starter.
