    The Angels plan this offseason?

To quote the Talking Heads, "Same as it ever was."

The comments sum it up -- especially the Jack Foley one.

And they'll get that pick right back when Madson signs somewhere else. And, while I don't understand the innerworkings, I keep hearing they'll get 2 picks when Madson signs somewhere else.

The Marlins have an idiot savant-like talent as a team. I don't know if it's a conscious decision or not, but they only shell out money for the elite players - They locked up Hanley and Josh Johnson, and let pretty much everyone else walk, no?

Boston interviewed Gene Lamont today. Yeah, that Gene Lamont.

Pete Mackanin, Dale Sveum, Sandy Alomar Jr., Torey Lovullo or Gene Lamont. One of those guys will be the next Red Sox manager.

    Love Gene Lamont.

Not sure he should get the job, but a real good guy. (Unless BYH says he's a horrible human being. In that case, I'll defer to his judgment.)

He might be, but he's a nonconductor of electricity if God ever made one. He's also 64 and hasn't managed in the big leagues in 10 years, and that's if you count the turn-of-the-century Pirates a major league outfit.

Please let it me Gene Lamont, so the Tigers can get a third base coach who actually knows what he's doing.

And let the Cubs hire Legendary Lloyd McClendon as their new manager.

That would make a few Tiger fans very happy this offseason.

I can't believe McClendon hasn't been cycled out.

I think the best parallel to the Papelbon signing is KRod with the Mets, and I'd expect him to have a similar career there, which will make Phillie fans very happy for 2+ years, and that we'll have a lot of talk about finding a taker for Papelbon's contract in 2015. Par for the course with high level FAs.

He's Leyland's buddy, just like Lamont.

At the moment it feels like Sveum's job to lose, with Alomar Jr. as the dark horse.

I'm also hearing there's a slight possibility of Lamont as manager with Sveum as bench coach and eventual successor (Sveum played under Lamont for both the White Sox and Pirates). I'm not a big Lamont fan, but he seemingly nailed his first interview and left a positive impression on Cherington. Seems like a long shot though. If the Sox like Sveum that much (and he has also interviewed for the Cubs opening), just hire him for the top job and from there find a veteran, experienced ex-manager to serve as his bench coach.

Alomar must interview well. He's very impressive. There were a few YouTube videos of him working an instructional camp and talking about hitting.
