Here's the portion of the program where OoP cites wins and ERA, like we've been whisked back in Emmitt Brown's DeLorean.

But at least Hampton's kids got a good Colorado education.

The comparison of Wilson, a pitcher whose numbers improved from his first year as a starter to his second, and Zito, who was in decline, is silly.

Hampton makes a little more sense, but his decline was mostly the inability to adapt to pitching in Coors and injuries.

ERA is still the best statistic for evaluating pitchers, and Wilson improved from 3.35 in 2009 to 2.94 in 2010. But he also had a 1.19 WHIP and 206 strikeouts in 223 innings pitched despite pitching in one of the worst pitchers' parks in the game.

Your post was misleading, but really, that's all you've got on this topic, so I shouldn't be surprised.

I'm looking forward to seeing him play in the outfield. From all reports I heard, he wasn't bad as a catcher.

Hampton (and Kile) wound up working for the Rockies in that their failures forced them to change their organizational philosophy. They grow pitchers now (or trade for ones they can develop) and teach them how to pitch at Coors. And don't go out and pay for crap or the latest fad, like Wilson.

The Braves got even less out of Hampton than Colorado did, and paid him a lot of money.

    That is not correct.

    Hampton in Colorado:

    62 starts, 381 IP, 21-28, 5.75 ERA, 196 K, 176 BB

    Hampton in Atlanta:

    85 starts, 509 IP, 35-24, 4.10 ERA, 262 K, 189 BB

And anyway, Florida paid a huge chunk of Hampton's salary after he was traded to the Braves (the Marlins had traded for him two days earlier as part of the deal that sent Juan Pierre to Florida).

I beg your pardon. They both got very little.

Anyway, the Braves were the ones who waited around two and a half years for him to throw a pitch.

To mark the 20th anniversary of Camden Yards next season, Baltimore is bringing back the cartoon Orioles cap logo for the first time since 1988 and will wear orange jerseys for the first time since 1992:

That's a somewhat insane contract offer, but if you're going to spend that kind of money, then Albert Pujols is probably the guy you want to do it on.

I think Reyes makes less sense for them if they are successful in getting Pujols - where do you stash Hanley Ramirez then? Can he play third? According to Baseball Reference, he's never logged a major league inning anywhere but short or DH. According to The Baseball Cube, he logged three games at third and 11 at second while in the Red Sox system.
