Thirteen teams will be disqualified from revenue sharing resulting in 79% share increase for remaining seventeen teams (3.3% vs. 5.9%).

Sure, players will make the majors anyway, but you're going to lose the exceptional talents to other sports since you can't essentially bribe them with a big bag of money. Austin Jackson, Matt Kemp, Todd Helton, Dave Winfield... All were lured to play baseball via bonus money, I believe. You'll get more gritty gamer types - Hail Punto! - as opposed to superior athletes.

Bud Selig belongs in a Roadrunner cartoon, always having that clueless look on his face when he runs off the cliff and is temporarily suspended in mid-air before he plummets back to Earth.

Matt Kemp says he wants to go 50-50 in 2012.

So it got me thinking how close has anyone come? As the following list shows, not very.

    Most SB's by a 50 HR hitter
    24 A-Rod 2007 (54 HRs)
    24 Willie Mays 1955 (51 HRs)
    21 Brady Anderson 1996 (50 HRs)
    20 Ken Griffey 1998 (56 HRs)

    Most HR's by a 50 SB player
    37 Eric Davis 1987 (50 SB)
    33 Barry Bonds 1990 (52 SB)
    29 Hanley Ramirez 2007 (51 SB)
    27 Eric Davis 1986 (81 SB)
    27 Joe Morgan 1976 (60 SB)
    26 Joe Morgan 1973 (67 SB)

    40-40 Players
    42 HR/40 SB Jose Caseco 1988
    42 HR/40 SB Barry Bonds 1996
    42 HR/46 SB A-Rod 1998
    46 HR/41 SB Alfonso Soriano 2006

Well, obviously the more homers one hits, the less chances one has to steal a base. Not to mention all the walks one receives with men on base, further eliminating steal chances. Also, your manager might have an aneurysm if his 50 homer guy is out there risking needless injuries. Good list, Gehrig. Reminds me how good Eric Davis was.

The salary cap imposed on the draft in the new CBA will be disastrous for competitive balance, says Ken Rosenthal (and everyone else):

I agree about Eric Davis. I looked at the list and was reminded of how he was one of the best offensive outfielders in the majors for a few years there. Not saying he's Hall of Fame material, but I do think he might be a bit under-rated.

I've never been a big Dodgers or Kemp fan but I love that after he guaranteed a 40/40 season (and damn near did it) he's setting an even higher goal in 2012. I'm going to predict that unless he gets injured, he will do it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Brady Anderson and Barry Bonds are the only players to ever have a 50 homer season and a 50 stolen base season (not the same year).

He never came real close but I always thought Jeter had 50-50 potential. Now that he's entering the second half of his career I doubt he'll attempt it, it's more important he stays in the lineup than tries to steal extra bases.

If Grady Sizemore hadn't gotten injured he might have come close...now he's just a shell of himself. Soriano, ARod, Carlos Beltran are some others. It's kind of surprising no one ever tried to do it. Would be an historic season.

I'm not sure what it was I said that warranted the facepalm jpeg.

I didn't say Jeter could easily put together a 50-50 season...just that there is the potential. But he's never been one to put his stats ahead of the team's success.

Maybe that's what it takes: Bonds, ARod, Canseco, Soriano - the 40/40 guys - I don't think any of them would win a teammate of the year award.

You know exactly what you did to deserve the facepalm, sock puppet. Your Jeter bullshit has its own thread and that's where it belongs. The idea of him having 50/50 potential is too stupid to argue with.
