In the case of Valentine, the answer is simple: Money. Based on what he making (around $4 million per season) and his popularity in Japan, that managerial job there from 2004-2009 was better than most, if not all MLB jobs at the time.

What were you saying when they hired Francona? Or when the Yankees hired TOrre?

I think it's just Manky trolling, since his suggestion was Mike Hargrove.

Keep the DH, but go to the amateur rule which does not require the DH must hit for the pitcher.

Of course 99.8% of the time the DH WOULD hit for the pitcher, but once in a while you'd have some interesting double switches.

Jonathan Broxton to the Royals on a one-year deal, contingent on passing a physical:

$4 million seems kind of steep for a guy you're not going to use as a closer. If they were going to plug him in to get some cheap saves, then deal him, a la Billy Koch, then it makes more sense to me.

I didn't realize Broxton had any ties to the Braves.

It's been so long I don't remember what my opinion was when the Yankees hired Torre.

And I was serious about Hargrove. The Red Sox have had clubhouse issues; Hargrove had experience managing a clubhouse full of difficult personalities in Cleveland (Albert Belle, Kenny Lofton, Manny Ramirez, Jeff Kent, Orel Hershiser, etc).

Broxton is a Georgia native. Think that's his only Braves tie.

Rumors are circulating about a potential Joakim Soria-Colby Rasmus trade. I love the Mexicutioner as much as the next guy, but as a Royals fan, YES PLEASE.

Why would Toronto trade a young, five-tool CF for a closer who's about to get very expensive?

Is Rosenthal throwing shit against the wall again? Or is this Heyman?

Oy. Unless the Blue Jays secretly hired Jim Bowden this week, I doubt they make that trade. Sorry, Royals fans.
