Yeah, it seems like a pipe dream for sure. However, the Royals had a full pen before they signed Broxton. There's got to be another move on the way. Either Soria is going to the rotation or someone is headed out of town.

If I'm the Royals, I'm very suspicious if Colby Rasmus is being offered. He was just the centerpiece in a deal for the Blue Jays, and now they want to get rid of him? It's not like they're awash in quality OFers either.

If they trade Travis D'arnaud it will be one of the dumbest things they do, but I doubt that will happen.

Speaking of Napoli, the Angels have acquired Chris Ianetta from Colorado for starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood:

Does this mean the Jeff Mathis era is over?

I think Colby Rasmus is going to be out of the league in a few years. The guy has plenty of talent but when you have problems with a manager like Tony LaRussa it tells you that he is an idiot and will not accept proper coaching.

    Yikes.

Chatwood was the most talked-about young pitcher in the system coming into last season, when Super Manager called him up too early, allowing Chatwood to display an alarming lack of control.

So he's gone, and in return the Halos get a catcher who batted .170 something on the road last season?

    Double yikes.

LaRussa isn't exactly a saint - He's had problems dealing with some talented players over the years. But from media reports, I guess Rasmus has a "stage dad" and maybe an attitude problem, so we'll see if he ever fully develops. (Then again, if he was hitting the snot out of the ball, I imagine we wouldn't have ever heard about the attitude issues.)

Sure, that's what LaRussa suggested in veiled comments last summer but Rasmus said it was bullshit. Fact is LaRussa isn't the right manager for everyone. He didn't get along with Scott Rolen and a number of other guys, either. Usually, seems like a personality clash. Happens. Rasmus has a ton of talent, so it's difficult for a manager when that doesn't come together right away. He could be the kind of guy who eventually figures it out and end up playing 10-12 years.

Mariano Rivera will undergo surgery to remove polyps from his vocal cords. Not expected to effect his ability to pitch in 2012.
