Cubs "sources" keep swearing they are in on Pujols, but I think that's just Epstein screwing with a divisional rival. Angels as mystery team?

    Maybe them or the Giants.

No one has been talking about the Angels and Pujols, but they would have to shut down Disneyland over the excessive smoke from the fireworks if they pull this off.

But there is no f'ing way Arte is going to fork over a 10-year contract. If the Marlins want to dig their bankruptcy grave like the Rangers did, go for it.

Side note, but if I'm the Rangers or anyone else who can afford it, I'd do that A-Rod deal again without hesitation. He lived up to it, it wasn't his fault that ownership couldn't put together a decent team with the remaining $90 million.

ARod from 2001-2010: .299 batting average, .394 obp, .577 slugging, 424 homers, 1236 rbis, two gold gloves, 3 mvps, played 1513 of 1620 games.

Yeah I would agree he earned it. He's still a weirdo.

Seeing a number of reports that the Angels are, in fact, that mystery team.

C'mon, Arte baby. It's only money. Git 'er done!

Agreed. The problem wasn't A-Rod at $25 million a year, it was silly stuff like $100 million to Chan Ho Park.

This after they gave Weaver the big contract. DiPito said the wouldn't be busting the budget ... just sending up smokescreens?

Arte has been hesitant in the past on big splashes.

If the Rockies didn't already have Helton, I think it would be cool to see what Pujols could do in Colorado.

    More smokescreens?

St. Mike says he wants more pitching over a big slugger.

    No shock there.

He has. I assumed the Angels would be staying out of this one.

Maybe they figure Pujols is closer to a sure thing than the big splashes they've avoided in the past. If you're going to pay stupid money, better to do it on Albert Pujols than Carl Crawford.

And within that story, Dipoto has $15 million to $20 million to spend. Arte wants a $140 million budget. I will believe it when I see it, but they'll get Wilson before they get Pujols, especially for what Pujols is apparently seeking -- and apparently has on the table.
