Maybe they could trade Vernon Wells to clear salary room for Pujols. Too bad the only team dumb enough to take on Wells' contract already has him.

And I don't really care where Pujols goes, as long as it's not the NL East.

If Pujols is looking at $22 million per year, that's not wildly out of DiPoto's budget and they can try to trade for pitching.

I'm not ordering my Pujols jersey just yet, but I'm glad to hear they're at least in the market.

God, if that happens, my coworker's head might explode. He's a giant Angels fan.

Well, he's normal sized, but he likes the Angels a lot.

This after they just traded away pitching (Chatwood)?

They obviously need to do something, but will Arte bite the bullet? And I'm pumped they are in the conversation for something. But is it smart? And will Arte bite the bullet?

Plus, the Angels have Trumbo and, if he gets healthy, Morales. Again, still not buying into this.

Yeah, but Trumbo struggles to get on base, and Morales remains a huge question mark. They certainly need a third baseman more than a first baseman, but if you can get Pujols it opens up trade options.

The Chatwood deal gave them a badly needed upgrade at catcher. I don't know that they were sold that Chatwood was a great long-term option in the rotation, but it did leave them thin.

I've just about got myself talked into this.

Yeah, you do. Especially since I've been been watching Iannetta the past few years ... and I'm not sold. Yes, an upgrade from what they had (hell, I would have been).

    I don't think they pull it off, especially if it's 10 years/$220 million-plus.

It's too much, frankly, and could hamstring the franchise.

Though I love St. Mike coming out saying he wants pitching over a bat, like it could be a smokescreen or they're in play for Fielder for fewer years/less money.

Aggravating to think the annual salary would be close to what they're stuck paying Vernon Wells for the next three years.

There's a reason Reagins is gone. It starts right there.

Mets trade Angel Pagan to the Giants for Andres Torres (challenge trade!) and reliever Ramon Ramirez.

They also and sign relievers Frank Francisco to a 2-year deal ($12 million) and Jon Rauch to a one-year deal ($3.5 million):

Seem like solid moves for New York, though I'd rather have Pagan than Torres and I'm generally not wild about multi-year contracts for relievers (especially injury prone ones). The passage below might be an indication of why they'd want to move Pagan:

I don't believe I'll be watching Pujols in Anheim this season.

Far more likely? The rumor going around of a Bourjos-David Wright swap.

That one makes far more sense.

Really? After the Mets just got a CF? I know Bourjos is superior defensively to Torres (and just about everyone), but that seems like a strange move.
