Can't believe he's going to get that much.

Do you think Fielder will be asking for more now?

Nice job by Tim. He never seems to get the attention that goes to Buster and Ken Rosenthal and Heyman but he's locked in. Good guy, too.

Never thought Pujols would leave St. Louis. Cardinals brass apparently thought the same thing, so they screwed the pooch on getting him signed two years ago or even before last season. There ain't no hometown discounts in sports unless it really is your hometown.

I could be bitter and hope that Pujols suffers a career-ending injury in spring training, but nah. Hell, he gave the Lou 11 great years and helped win two World Series, so there's nothing to be bitter about.

Still ... good luck, Mike Matheny.

Is this not the same response repeated every year? Free agents get overpaid, it's just the way it is.

I'm not so sure about that. Let's see where the dominoes fall. Texas is going to need to respond, St. Louis is going to have to do something, Florida hasn't made a deal in hours ... this could get even more interesting.

Cardinals badly mismanaged this... Not Mozeliak, ownership. This deal was the responsibility of ownership. From the beginning, Pujols made it clear he was never going to sign another under-market contract to stay there.

The last few years have seemed a bit muted. It seems like teams have a ton more cash this time around. MLB's revenue streams are really on the uptick. I'd expect a few more years of this until people's expectations catch up with the inflation.

Fielder has never been in Pujols' league. Even in his worst season, Pujols was better overall the Fielder.
