They dumped the worst-hitting shortstop in the majors for the second-worst. Congratulations.

At least this one is decent defensively. Their old no-hit shortstop couldn't field either.

This move was more for defense. And it was apparent they weren't getting Rollins.

Also, I'm guessing they are not done. Aren't they supposed to be the favorites to sign Aramis Ramirez?

Depends now on if they can find someone to take on Francisco Rodriguez and his likely 8-figure arbitration award. That really caught them off-guard.

That's the gamble you take in offering arbitration. Greg Maddux caught the Braves off-guard a few years back by unexpectedly accepting arbitration, and they had to trade Kevin Millwood for Johnny Estrada to get under-budget.

Heyman is reporting the Rays and Damon are both interested in an encore but that he would take a big pay cut.

A scary thought for teams still looking for starting pitcher ... now that Wilson and Buerhle have signed, the best MLB veteran arm on the market (i.e., not including Yu Darvish) is probably Edwin Jackson.

Brewers wanted to get those high draft picks in case he signed elsewhere. So they can either find a suitor for K-Rod and maybe pay a portion of his salary through trade, or have the most overpaid setup man for the most underpaid closer.

Now that the Angels shot their wad on Pujols, I'd imagine they are.
