It seems that the acquisition of Melancon is part of the plan to move Bard to the rotation (which I think is a mistake). But I figure there are 3-4 relievers just as good as Melancon in the Red Sox's system. If not, they'd be a lot cheaper to acquire than what they gave up.

Very curious to see where he ends up (maybe here). It is going to cost a stunning amount of money.

Who knows why they're so enthusiastic to move him. He's been dangled for two offseasons.

Meh. At least it cements my "Either I have to start liking the Red Sox, or I have to start hating Bobby V" decision from the other thread.

I hereby decree my one-year flirtation with the Cardinals dead. Long Live Boston!

They want to get something for him while he's still got value, because they're obviously not going to pay him when he becomes a free agent.

Looks like the Jays and Rangers are the two leading bidders for Darvish.

Frankly I hope the Jays win. Darvish has the capability of sinking a franchise if he comes over here and bombs. The money isn't worth the risk.

There seems like something more to this. I think they just don't like the guy. They have had a few problems getting him to play hard.

My legitimate guess right now is that the winning bid was by one of the following:

    Mariners, Nationals, Cubs, Jays.

I've seen quite a few posts on twitter in which people are saying that the Jays won the bidding, with one guy saying that he's hearing it out of Japanese media (sounds more believable than the rest). Aside from one tweet about the Yankees, I haven't seen anybody claim that any other team has won the bidding, only that they have submit bids. Only seen it with the Jays so far.

Yes, I know, Twitter isn't all that reliable some times.

Yanks, Jays, Rangers, Cubs - not sure which team won or if that list is 100 percent accurate. But that's the word. Yu Hu!

What the hell do the Yanks want him for?

They are still buried in Lake Igawa ($26 million fee, plus a 5 yr/20 million dollar contract), and he hasn't left Trenton yet.

Because they can?? I don't know. Good question. I'm a little surprised the Nats apparently did not get involved.
