You got to come up with more than Nix and Thome. How long is Howard out?

No one seems to know, or, more likely, wishes to say what they know.

Nats fans should be thrilled that, not only did Rizzo add a solid starter to the rotation, but he also kept Storen and Clippard, who have been trade bait for what seems like forever. Lots can change, of course, but I like what I see among the pitchers.

If Beltran scores 110 runs, gets 178 hits, hits 34 doubles and 39.5 home runs and drives in 109.5 runs over the next 2 years, they got the same money's worth the Angels wound up paying Pujols.

Guys, when discussing the success of a team, please refrain from mentioning LaRoche. His inability to hit anything above .250 the first half of the season will dig the Nats into a deep hole. Hell, he hit .172 last season.

If I get enough money, I am going to invest in cloud-front property on the floating city of New Chicago.

    Ditto.
I never ceased to be amazed.

You do realize, Devil, that LaRoche was HURT last year? Shouldn't have been playing at all. His numbers when healthy are pretty fucking good. Not great, carry a team type numbers. But strong piece of puzzle numbers. Some guys start slow. Some finish slow. Some stay slow. You judge the numbers over six months. Somebody who is hot early will balance a slow start, someone who is hot later will balance a slow finish. A guy who can hit 25 HRs and drive in 90 is NOT a bad piece to have.

He has a strong track record.

And it would be an upgrade if he hit .250 for a half a season, he's usually below that. Yet he'll finish in the 270-280 range. Every time.

Despite his injury-induced slow start last season, he somehow didn't dig a hole. The Nats were above .500 when their manager walked out in late June.

Thing that scares me most about the Nats is their injury history - they had LaRoche try to play through a labrum tear. He's the one who finally said enough is enough. And shocker, the tear got worse. They had Chad Cordero pitching with one years ago until his shoulder went kablooey. Zimmerman in 08 or 09 played too long with some kind of injury that should have been dealt with immediately.
The worst was Jesus Flores, who was Wilson Ramos before Ramos was Ramos. Injured shoulder, back in three weeks. He goes on a rehab and the shoulder explodes on his first hard throw - they had clearly missed something. See you in two years, Jesus. Sad stuff, he had a chance to be really, really good.

I love the Nats right now. The division is tough, but I'm not convinced they are noticeably worse than any of the Braves, and the Phillies are going to come back to earth eventually.

Meanwhile, they have an aggressive ownership and Harper is a franchise-making prospect.

He doesn't hit .279-.280 EVERY time. He hit .261 in 2010. Still those second halves can be a nice boost for a playoff run.

    Oh silly me.
And he drove in 100. I'll take the nine-point drop in BA.
