I wasn't criticizing him. I was just pointing out that your statement about his batting average wasn't exactly accurate.

Overall, I agree with you regarding LaRoche. I've always thought he was better tha most people realize. It's a running joke with the guys I play fantasy baseball with that he somehow always ends up on my team even the years I don't draft him.

I love this quote from Gonzalez:

"I love everything about it," Gonzalez said about the rotation via phone. "I remember growing up watching Chien-Ming Wang with Yankees. You are talking about great guys in that rotation. I don't want to step on anybody's toes. I want to be a part of it as much as possible.

Wang is 4-5 years older than Gonzalez - so when Wang was winning 19 games in New York, Gonzalez was already in his 20s and playing pro ball.

Set that aside, I still don't understand his point.

The idea of rooting for Bryce Harper has to make some of you reconsider your Nats fanhood. He looks like he is going to set the douche bar unbreakably high.

Look at his first half splits.

Remember, he used to play for the Pirates.

    Career .246 hitter pre-July.

Maybe I should create a sig about you?

Have fun watching him swing through fastballs in April, May and June then get hot when you are 15 games out of first place.

I could be wrong about what he does this season, but I am not wrong about him being a shitty, and I mean shitty starter.

.208 career in April and and .246 career in May

Good luck with him. Hopefully he won't be hitting anything higher than sixth.

He did single-handedly make the Pirates stink.

You can't find a 1B who can hit well in both halves of the season...? He's also 32, coming off a year he missed 100 games. $8 million seems a bit steep, although if I'm reading his contract info correct on BR, the Nats gave him that contract before the 2011 season (2 years, $16 million, with a team option for 2013).

Now, to immediately contradict myself, looking at the free agent 1B, it is a pretty steep drop-off after Fielder: Branyan, Cantu, Gload, Hawpe, Dan Johnson, Kotchman, Derrek Lee, Nady and Carlos Pena. yikes. With that crop out there, I suppose LaRoche isn't a major downgrade or upgrade, but he also isn't a player I'd feel comfortable saying, "Well, our problems are over at first base."

He is a one-year guy. Then Harper gets a spot in the OF and no-walking Morse moves to first. The Nats could do a hell of a lot worse for a year
