You're probably right, but his career is no deader than Colon's was. No risk.

Mostly depends on whether you are giving up a 40-man roster spot. Those have a little bit of value, so you shouldn't just waste them. But otherwise, yeah.

Where'd doodah? I noticed he's advocating either tearing down Turner Field and rebuilding it, or moving the Braves to Charlotte or Baltimore.

According to his website, owning 2 million acres in 12 states and raising 50,000 head of bison. Who has time for anything else?

Yankees and Pirates have been working (and making progress toward) a deal for A.J. Burnett all weekend. Last tweets I saw on it had the Pirates paying about $15M of the $33M remaining on his contract and giving up two minor-league prospects.

So far, the Yankees haven't loved the prospects the Pirates are offering. They want the Pirates to take on more of the salary or offer better players.

For only having to pay eight mill for the next two years, if I'm the Yankees I take whatever two Pittsburgh wants to send.

    Looks like 18, no?

Exactly. This is an idiotic risk on the Pirates' part even if it was just taking on the salary. If they give up any kind of legitimate prospect at all, it just becomes an even dumber move.

I'm surprised anyone would take Burnett. Just make the Yankees be stuck with him.

Based on the 2012 roster, if they ship Burnett in this deal, they could have at least 37 mil coming off the payroll going into 2013, 51 mil if Rivera retires.

Why? I think he might do well. A team like the Pirates can't get veteran innings eaters to come at a price like that, and who knows if outside of NY he relaxes & isn't bad. For a while a bunch of NL teams did good business picking up failed Yankees at 40 cents on the dollar (Vasquez, Weaver I'm forgetting a few).

I tend to agree, Guy. Burnett isn't a guy who has no talent. He's got a big arm and he's capable of great performances. He's never put it together consistently under pressure in NYC, but I think he can do pretty well in the NL Central. At a about $9 mil a year, that's not bad price for Burnett. $18 mill a year was outrageous.

And from what I've read, the Pirate's aren't going to give up big prospects for him. If one of them ends up sticking in the major leagues, it will be a surprise, it sounds like.

No, but for a team with limited funds, an offseason of tying up money in guys like Clint Barmes and A.J. Burnett is a terrible idea.
