Well, that remains to be seen. But it's still worth the risk for the Pirates.

You should never post again so this can be the greatest post in SJ history. More posts from you will ruin it.

He had one decent season with the Blue Jays.

Not real surprising. He was cooked at the end of last year, even though he was throwing a knuckler. His fastball speed had dropped to the point where batters could just sit back and wait on it, instead of him being able to sneak it past guys for strikes. Still, he was a beloved guy in Boston, and I'm sure NESN is already preparing a broadcast seat for him if he wants to segue into that kind of work.

Given how little they spend, I'm not so sure. $6.5 million is actually a significant chunk of their payroll.

Saw on Twitter that Wakefield's retirement means there are no longer any active major-league players who have appeared in a postseason game with the Pirates.

Miguel Batista had a September call-up for that 1992 team, and he's still hanging on with the Mets. So he's the last survivor from the last Pirates playoff team, though he didn't make the postseason roster.

I read it correctly the first time. I was adding information, and I included specifically the fact that he didn't play in a postseason game to clarify that you were correct. But thanks for the clarification.
