This will not end well. In fact, I don't see Manny lasting the season.

    It's a minor league deal. There's no downside. It's a smart move.

Behold the Zim Bear, which will be given away to the first 10,000 fans in attendance at the June 29 Rays-Tigers game:

    Great line from Joe Maddon:

A's have had a very odd offseason. First, they basically got rid of all their best players and then they sign Cespedes and Ramirez (albeit not exactly for a truckload of money). Just seems like a club with no direction.

They are the real-life Indians from "Major League." The owner isn't just ambivalent about winning, he actively wants to lose so he can move the team. The only difference is nobody wants to see him naked.

I can't disagree. Particularly about the last part.

I'm starting to think Selig let him know the move to San Jose is on. But even Frank McCourt learned the hard way not to build a team around Manny ...

A minor league deal at 500000 grand is hardly building around somebody.

I was reading Jonah Keri's Tigers preview on Grantland, and I nearly stood up and applauded this line:

"If Cabrera sticks at third all year, he, Peralta, Raburn, and Fielder are going to befoul everything Tom Emanski ever stood for."

    That's an outstanding line.
