My bad. You kept posting snippets from it every 90 seconds, so I assumed you were hitting the high points.

If we're talking about money-losing sports at the college level, point the finger at pretty much everything but football and men's basketball, and those are money-losers at many schools.

Salaries? I'm sure Geno is making a seven-figure salary. Kim Mulkey at Baylor is said to be making that much, you can bet Geno is, too. And if UConn can't turn a profit in its women's basketballl program, I don't know who can. Tennessee maybe? Stanford?

The story said Geno is making $1.8 million. The story also pointed out that attendance isn't as high for women's hoops as opposed to men's, and ticket prices aren't as high. This leads to losses.

The part that struck me was where North Carolina would have to draw 15-16,000 in order to break even. They're not even drawing 4,000, and they're a nationally-renowed program.

Reason why women's basketball loses money is that they're paying for major league salaries for head coaches and staffers, but they're drawing minor-league money. It would be like the Toledo Mud Hens trying to sign Albert Pujols. Sure, they might get him if they pay him enough. But they're not going to make enough money to justify the expense.

What I'd love to know: How much does Chris Dailey, Geno's longtime lieutenant, make? She could've had almost any head coaching job that's come up in the last 10-plus years if she wanted. She must be getting fabulous coin (and the promise of the big chair when Geno leaves?) to still be there.

UConn doesn't draw nearly the crowds that it used to. Less than a decade ago, it sold out Gampel (10,000) and the Hartford Civic Center (16,000) for pretty much every home game. Now it only sells out a couple of times a season. When attendance falls, so do revenues.

It sounds like we're seeing what happens when relentless marketing mixes with an inferior product. Throughout they "hey give it a chance" 1990s, people embraced or tried to embrace the sport. But giving something a chance only goes so far, and if people conclude that they've given it a chance and don't like it, they're gone forever as customers.

    I'm proud of you guys!
Y'all scared up four quick pages of posts in a matter of two days.
There hasn't been this sort of performance on women's basketball thread here ever, perhaps.

    And Gig 'em, Aggies!

    I was thinking Rene Portland.

So poin had a point with the financial issues as the WWL is hammering home to viewers. Fine. But his initial posts - and he has since cooled down - were so venomous that one would have thought that women's college basketball was going to destroy life as we know it.
