This is the most believable scenario.

I think at this point after the AA on Raw, even if Rock costs Cena the title, Rock would still be a face. Just giving back what was given to him.

And I really like the last part of your idea Baron, especially the Cena line about hustling the fans. Well done sir. Now only if they'll do it.

  2. I don't know, I would think his act would grow tired really quick if he was just a heel all of the time. A color guy could get away with it, but I would grow tired of hearing it for two hours every Monday.

I'm tired of hearing him two hours every Monday anyway.

The problem is that we've been wanting Cena to turn heel for about three years now and it still doesn't look like it'll be happening any time soon. Or, at least not until they've released another Cena shirt (Red perhaps?) and wrung that well dry.

    A few brief thoughts:

    - Even with "the streak" and HHH involved, I can't imagine them putting Rock/Cena/Miz, which is generating far more publicity and interest than any other match, anywhere but as the main event.

    - I love the Miz, but no way does he hang on to the title. Even if it wasn't a rarity that the heel gets the win at WM, Miz as a champion hasn't gone well for WWE on the business side. I read somewhere this week that the ratings actually go down when he's on screen. People see Miz and change the channel. It's a shame, but if that's the case, he's almost certainly done as champ for the foreseeable future. I just hope he doesn't fade to Swagger irrelevance.

Wasn't King always in heel mode years back?

I can believe that about the Miz, but I always hate numbers like that. I think what they really mean is, "We haven't built him as well as we've built John Cena." Given that the guy was being booked somewhat-evenly with Jerry Lawler, a senior citizen announcer, why are they surprised that some fans still don't take him seriously? Yeah, those matches were surprisingly good, but they can only hurt the Miz. (Similar complaint: Jack Swagger should not be getting laid out by Lawler unless Lawler jumps him.) They did the same thing during Jericho's first undisputed title reign - He won against The Rock and Austin thanks to interference, and retained without clean victories either, and finally was an afterthought despite having the belt in a feud between Stephanie and HHH.

I still maintain that heels should be winning clean more often in order to maintain their credibility as performers. I think it only gets cheap heat on them when they win by shady tactic after shady tactic, and that ultimately, it is more effective to have them get clean victories and use the DQ / countout / interference finish as a rarity. While WWE is nowhere near as bad as TNA when it comes to this, it still feels like a good portion of their matches have some BS run-in or condition.

You mean like when Cena fought Sheamus, Wade Barrett, CM Punk, Orton, Edge, Big Show.....everyone?

How many pay per views in a row are we going to have where the consensus theory/hope is that it begins a Cena heel turn?

Not that it doesn't make sense, it's just funny once a month hearing "Maybe this is the one..."

Jerry Lawler in heel mode was entertaining. Jesse Ventura and Bobby Heenan in heel mode were entertaining. Michael Cole in heel (or, really, any) mode is annoying as fuck.

I love heel Cole. I think he's awesome and hilarious. Way better than heel Lawler.

Theory? Well it makes sense this month having something as big as a Cena heel turn at the biggest event of the year.

Consensus hope? Every month until it happens. :D
