And thankful Erick Green is the only Hokie with any idea how to put the ball in the hole?

Looks like Michigan is going to get a one-week turn at #1. They should beat Illinois on Sunday to actually get the spot, but they've got an 11-day stretch coming up that's at Indiana, home against Ohio State, at Michigan State and at Wisconsin. They are really good, but I'm not sure anyone's good enough to go 4-0 with that schedule.

That same Illinois team crushed Ohio State -- which beat Michigan -- by 19. Illinois also beat Butler and Gonzaga. Michigan should win that game, but I wouldn't assume it.

He filled it up, but he took his teammates completely out of the game. The rest of the team started ball-watching, which contributed to steals and blocks for the Hoos.

Bennett put Doug Browman, a walk-on, on Green in the first half, for some reason. There was one sequence where Green made him fall down twice in a row, then stepped back and bricked a jumper.

That's because the rest of his team sucks. That's who they are. Green and a bunch of other guys. Sure, 1 on 5 creates issues, but think of how bad it'd be if he didn't do what he does.

Can't believe I forgot to post this Tuesday night:

Alabama just might make the NCAA tournament with the worst frontcourt in major college basketball, though it will require a 12-4 Southeastern Conference record. Nick Jacobs somehow scored as many points as Alex Poythress and Nerlens Noel combined.

Won't argue there, although it perplexes me that Jarrell Eddie isn't more productive than he is. That guy seems like he should be a lower-tier All-ACC player.

Sonner, to further your point, here are some numbers from last night:

UVa's non-starting freshmen* (Justin Anderson, Mike Tobey, Teven Jones): 24 points
Every Tech player not named Erick Green: 23 points

*The one freshman who started, Evan Nolte, had 18.

I remember Erick Green when he was a freshman at a HS near my hometown. I had heard he was going to be good, just not "leading scorer in the country" good. Of course, he transfered out of the small town and into the city to get more exposure. Seemed to work.

He transfered to a HS about two miles from George Mason; same school that produced last year's WaPo All-Met POY (and current GMU freshman). Sure would have been sweet to land Green as well. He may have averaged 40 ppg in the CAA.

Transferring to Paul VI was a great move for Erick Green's basketball career in high school. Green is a great example of how much a player can improve by staying all four years in college. You can tell by watching him play, or simply from looking at the numbers that he has made significant improvement with every year spent at VT. His jumper was once non-existent, and now it is very steady. NBA teams will also appreciate his ability to pretend he's getting fouled, as he is quite the actor on the floor too.

I've seen his name on a lot of mock draft boards, mid-second round usually.

  12. Syracuse choked in a 75-71 OT loss to Villanova. Up four with about a minute left and missed three free throws. 'Nova hits the tying 3 with a few seconds left to send it to OY
