2012-13 College Basketball Running Cordial Discussion

I've heard Knight speak out on how overrated the Fab 5 were on multiple occasions, seems to be one of his many pet peeve issues.

And he has a point. Considering the Fab 5 never even won a Big 10 Conference title (largely because they couldn't beat Knight's IU teams those years), the legendary status they have does seem rather overblown.

 

Agree with all of this ... and so does Stephen Bardo, ESPN's designated Gonzaga broadcaster.

As I checked if last night's joke of a game at Loyola Marymount was over yet, Bardo was rambling on about how the 1989 Wolverines team that denied his Flying Illini the NCAA title was superior to the Fab 5 in both talent and achievement, at least at the college level. And he's right.

Until Juwan Howard's bench stint for the heat last season, they had never really won anything in the NBA either.

Typical Bob Knight commentary during a game:

"You see, this is an important possession for Baylor up by six points here. If they can get a basket or maybe even a 3-pointer here that would put them up by eight or nine, which is getting close to a nice double digit lead. But if Oklahoma State can get a stop they have an opportunity to go down and cut the lead to four, maybe even three, which is closer."

 

He is not a source of wisdom on these things. A couple years ago, he had moments.

Nothing new here, but Marcus Smart is a beast. His last couple of offensive rebounds have been against 2-3 Jayhawks. Suffice it to say, this would be a huge win for OK State.
