Bill Carmody at Northwestern apparently out after 13 seasons.

I know that expectations are much lower at NU compared with other Big Ten schools but he had a long time to make a trip to the NCAA. This year's team was particularly unwatchable.

If they get Indy, overwhelming talent will see them through to the Final Four. Crean has done an excellent job assembling a team that is full of solid players.

But if considering player development, game planning, teaching, and in-game adjustments, Crean remains maybe the fourth or fifth-best coach in the Big Ten.

Even with the loss to NC State yesterday, UVa is still going to be an interesting case study. Such a mixed resume and whether or not it gets in is going to depend on what criteria the committee deems most important this year, which Seth Greenberg will tell you changes from year to year.

So far the other games are breaking their way, lots of bubble teams losing, no bid thiefs yet and the win in Madison is looking better and better. Best care scenario for Virginia is Vandy beats Ole Miss then loses to Florida, UMass fails to get by VCU and Saint Louis and UNC takes care of Maryland today.

What in the last 10 years has given you any indication that Alabama would ever beat Florida in basketball?

Gimme a break. It was a double overtime conference tournament championship game.

Agreed. I tuned in for Wisconsin-IU, but didn't mind seeing Southern Miss fight for a berth in the tourney. It's not like that much was on the line with the Big Ten game.

    I agree as well.

My Twitter timeline exploded with people complaining about having to miss the first five minutes of a semifinal because a final went OT. They spoke with no irony.

That said . . . does CBS' split screen technology only work for the NCAA Tournament?

Ole Miss beats Vandy 64-52 to advance to the SEC finals. Hard to keep a 25-win team out of the NCAA tournament, even if it is from the SEC.

Wasn't it last week they got roasted in some quarters for cutting out of the Wichita State MVC game in favor of the start of the Indiana-Michigan game? Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Under most circumstances, the ending of a game is more significant than the start of a game. If I invest two hours watching something, I feel entitled to see the finish. Not everyone has internet access. They could start the other game on the cable network, although I bet it has other programmning commitments, too.

Guess here is that Kentucky gets an at-large bid, like 1985.
