Somebody mentioned Luke Hochevar's latest meltdown coming right on schedule. A.J. Burnett's did the same tonight. Two good starts and tonight he gives up 12 earned runs and fails to get out of the third inning.

You may ask why he was left in long enough to give up 12 earned runs, but hey, if your role is to give the team innings....

Come on, 93Devil. We expect this shit from Manky, but you should know better. At least there is a reasonable argument to be made about Morneau winning in 2006. He was better than Jeter and the more deserving candidate, but it was close enough for discussion. If Jeter was actually a good shortstop, he probably would have been more deserving.

But 2009? Zeke is right. Nobody was close to Mauer that year. It is pretty clear that he will never do that again, but that is irrelevant. Manky chose to cite 2009, when Jeter had no case at all, rather than 2006 because he is trolling.

I might even agree that Jeter had a better case in 2006. Morneau hit .320 with 34 homers and won the MVP. Any given year you can find 3-4 first basemen that do that. Mauer's season in 2009 was more rare since he was a catcher. I still think Jetes should have won both years. It would be interesting to go back and re-vote the MVP awards given what we now know about Mauer.

In 75 years, people will ask why Jeter never won an MVP and see names like Morneau and Mauer and have to look up who they were.

For the blessed life Jeter has had in other areas, he can't catch a break on the MVP.

Get excited National fans. Get excited.

At almost every spot in the lineup you have a dangerous hitter, and almost every starting pitcher can strikeout 200 batters this season.

They are a damn fine team.

Meanwhile, helluva game going on in ATL. Braves scored 6 in the bottom of the fifth to tie it, teams swapped runs until top of the 9th when Phillies tied it at 13.

Braves win it 15-13 in 11 on a walk-off homer by Chipper Jones, who had just missed foul on the previous pitch two pitches before.

Cubs are four games out of the second wild-card spot, and Jeff Samardzija is awesome.

Weaver no-hitter through seven at the Big A. Angels have finally found the whooping sticks and lead 9-0. Pujols still homerless.
