Mark my words: within two years, Pujols will have retired. He is embarrassing himself.

Great scene with his parents on the field.

Ya, love the emotion. Luckily he's not a hardened journalist.

I swear to god, if every baseball game was like that game in Atlanta, I'd love baseball like BYH does (which is to say in the dark and alone).

I got there halfway through, and Phils were already up 6-0. My friend was like "I can't stay all night" but I didn't care because a.) I don't care about baseball and b.) the tickets were free. I figured the game was over, we'd have a beer, leave in like the 8th, and be done with it.

Holy shit, what a roller-coaster that game was. Pitching does nothing for me. More hits, more runs!

    Nicely done, Jered!

Busy on desks at L.A. Times and Orange County tonight - a lot of news from Junior Seau to this.

I played poker against Weaver during the 2006 World Series in St. Louis (he was in town watching his bro). He overplayed his pocket jacks pre-flop, but I chickened out of calling his $500 with KQ suited. He was trying to stay anonymous -- just coming off his rookie year -- but a couple of us quietly figured out who he was so he loosened up a little.

And at last call he bought drinks for the whole poker room. That's all I got.

Add a Clippers playoff game and new Dodgers ownership introduced. Nights like this I miss putting out a sports section.

Weaver on MLB Network on hitting the head in the bottom of the eighth: "I had to pee so bad it was unbelieveable."

Mike Scioscia: "The key to the game was Chris Iannetta's pitch-calling. Though if Jeff Mathis was there it would have been a perfect game."
