When will the White Sox learn that Matt Thornton can't be a closer? Ninth-inning stuff, third-inning head. He's the Javy Vazquez of relievers.

I read they are moving Chris Sale to the pen and they are going to have him close beginning Monday. Supposedly, that was the plan even before Thornton's latest failure.

Sale was scheduled to start Sunday, but is moving back to the pen. He just pitched Tuesday, so I guess they are giving him his regular rest before becoming closer.

Interesting that Ventura left Thornton in tonight, instead of going to Santiago, who had been just as awful closing games.

In six starts this year, Tim Lincecum has allowed 12 first-inning runs. Tonight he threw balls on 13 of his first 15 pitches and allowed a run to score on a bases-loaded wild pitch.

Nats just won for the fifth time in their final at bat. Tenth one-run victory of the year.

Yep. They managed to somehow pull out that Strasburg-Kendrick start.

I'm sure you're not the only one on this board secretly enjoying it. :)

Jetes crushed a HR going 2-5 tonight. Still batting above .400.

He needs some help...the Captain and the Grandy Man are carrying this offense. I think Cano will get hot but I think Tex is done.

I heard about Sale moving to the bullpen, and that sucks for two reasons: He's been their most reliable starter (I don't count Peavy as reliable), and I don't think he's closer material. I'd like to see Reed get the call, but my guess is that the team is protecting him by limiting his innings until he gets a little more seasoning.

It's May 4th and the Yankees are in 4th and the Red Sox in 5th. Any ideas when the last time that happened was?

1995, because the Yankees hadn't learned how to win yet.

Nope, not that year. I went back and looked and in 1966 Boston finished 9th and NY 10th. I don't think they will both finish in the AL East cellar this year but it's not a good start.
