What an overreaction. He was hit in the back and acted like a professional. Went to first without bitching and stole home. Why the need for a suspension?

Correct. They're off Thursday, so they can just bring back Halladay on Saturday and pitch Hamels on Sunday.

Because Hamels wasn't smart enough to keep his mouth shut. Or to lie.

Guillermo Mota is suspended 100 games for testing positive for Clenbuterol. He had previously been suspended 50 games for a positive test when with the Mets in 2006.

Not that Mota's 5.06 ERA is particularly going to be missed, but the Giants sure couldn't afford to lose any more depth in the bullpen.

He wasn't going to miss a start, regardless. They'd just push him back a day, off day or no. Kind of like every other starter worth a damn that's gotten a 5-day suspension.

But this way they don't have to make a roster move.

Which is why "5-game suspensions" for pitchers is so dumb to begin with.

Pretty interesting story on the young pitcher for the Orioles (and Arizona's top pick last year) and how long-toss is viewed by people in baseball.

It really worked for one Maddux...

"I'll start playing long toss in January. If I can throw it 200 feet, I try to throw it 300 feet. I don't stop at 120 feet, I throw it as far as I can." –Greg Maddux, Atlanta Braves

Isn't this just a very fancy way of issuing a fine? Not that he didn't deserve it for running his mouth

And Rizzo can bitch and whine all he wants, but a guy getting pegged in the ass/lower back *probably* doesn't call for the electric chair.

With a home run tonight, career AAAA hitter Bryan LaHair is your major-league OPS leader.
