Good question. I'm just wondering how much of an upgrade Bourjos would be over Bernadina OR Ankiel.

I like Roger Bernadina more than most people. He's made some of the more athletic defensive gems of the past few years. I give him a lot of latitude for his big-play ability on defense.

Angels need relief. Don't think the Nationals have it.
Side note: Bourjos bobblehead night is May 16.

Nats desperately need a leadoff hitter so they can slide Desmond down in the order. Tough to score a lot when you have a .250 hitter who walks exactly three times a season hacking at every pitch he sees in the 1 hole. Fucking painful to watch sometimes.

I like Ankiel's glove/arm in CF, though, and wouldn't see Bourjos as much of an upgrade if at all.

If Rizzo is to be believed, he's not looking to trade for an outfielder now. Can't remember many times when he's said one thing and done another. Especially if the Angels want a reliever. Terrible timing.

Also, Strasburg enjoys pitching against Pittsburgh, I think. Nice to see my guy Bernie hit an absolute bomb last night, too.

Everyone enjoys pitching against Pittsburgh! :D

Seriously, though, Garrett Jones first-ball swinging after Strasburg walked the bases loaded with two outs in the sixth is one of the (many, many) reasons the Pirates just aren't a good baseball team. It was a breaking ball that would have been ball 1 and he fouls it off, putting him behind in the count and giving Strasburg the confidence back to K his ass and get out of trouble. That was the game right there. Well, that and Correia's two meatballs to Bernadina and LaRoche.

Also: Peter Bourjos is one of the best outfielders in baseball. He would be a significant upgrade over just about anyone else defensively.

Bourjos is hitting .192, I see. Nats have plenty of outfielders hitting below .200 as it is. They've got that covered.

So I should get excited because of his arm?

Was a response the the poster who says Bourjos isn't much of an upgrade at all over Ankiel on the defensive side. He isn't hitting for shit this year and is nobody to get excited about. But his defense is pretty amazing.

So he's a younger Ankiel, though I think Ankiel can be a useful player on offense, too. Ankiel is a perfect CF for that team when it is at full strength. Can really play CF, has one hell of an arm and can contribute on offense. Can't carry an offense and with Morse and Werth out, the Nats can use someone else with that kind of ability to help Zimmerman and LaRoche (if he has his usual second half, my lord). Maybe it will be Harper.

Unless this Bourjos cat is a significant upgrade or comes cheap, I don't see a reason to do it. What would he cost? A low-end reliever? If it is a Clippard/Storen type, then no way.

Agree completely with Moddy. I'm good with Ankiel. And I'm higher on Bernie than most, however irrational it might be.

Ankiel hasn't sucked at the plate this year and there ain't a thing wrong with his defense.

He did hit .271 with 12 home runs and 22 stolen bases as a rookie and his slugging percentage went up quite a bit the second half of the season (.397 to .493), so he has flashed some potential as a hitter at the major-league level.

Then again, Espinosa looked good for for half of last season, too.

Saw that. He has potential. Just not sure what it's worth giving up to get him. Not much, especially if they're looking for relievers.

I've given up on hoping to see Lombo in for Espy. He got a double last night, so I'm sure Davey thinks that justifies keeping him in there another day. Whatever.
