Yeah, but now Hatcher's been canned, so Trout's hitting is sure to crater.

Pitch f/x has the third strike as a very, very borderline but correct call.

I would say 8 to 10 games. I know it wasn't intentional but you can't have helmets that are thrown hitting umps.

JC, that train is so far out of the station you can't even see the caboose. Umpires have been teaching players humility lessons since Ty Cobb, and it's not changing any time in the future.

First, yes, the helmet did hit the ump - the AP story said it hit him in the hip. Second, I suspect he'll get the same type of suspension that a player would get for making accidental physical contact (i.e. bumping) an ump during an argument. Seven games feels about right.

That last pitch to Lawrie was clearly a ball. It's the umpire's job to make the right call, not retaliate for being shown up.

At best, that means they were both wrong. Even if the umpire did screw him over intentionally, that is no excuse for what Lawrie did.

    And that's what matters.

What Lawrie did is indicative of what's wrong with this country. Everybody is looking for an excuse and acting like a 5-year-old instead of learning how to suck it up and be an adult. It's one AB; not the end of the world. The ump taught you a lesson. Flash him a shitty grin and take a seat. Life's too short to miss five games because you can't control yourself, and there are kids who emulate those assholes.

I agree with most of that. Still don't care for umpires failing to do their jobs properly so they can make themselves feel better/teach a player a lesson.
