I'd say that was well-played, but that might get me into worse trouble!

No worries, Hansen. It was extremely well played.

The dude is 37. What are the odds he keeps this up?

Ruth did it four times, not surprisingly: 1923-24, '27-28. But his highest K total in those seasons was 93 (and the rest of his K totals were in the 80s), so it was slightly easier to do.

Mantle did it in '58. Schmidt did it in '83. Murphy did it in '85.

Still looking for others, but those are the only ones I've found so far.

Ryan Howard's come close a few times recently, as has Thome. Frank Howard and Dick Allen both came close on several occasions. Jimmie Foxx and Hank Greenberg both came very close in about 5 different seasons.

I'm stunned that it's happened 10 times. When you think how hard it is to throw one one-hitter, and that Vander Meer is the only guy to throw two no-hitters, it's shocking, to me at least, that it's been done before, albeit only three times after World War II.

He can't keep this pace up no matter his age, in particular his K/BB ratio as a knuckleballer. That's freak stuff. But as a knuckleballer, he can probably pitch for another 10 years.

Weird episode involving Dave Barnett during last night's Texas-San Diego game. He says something about fifth base, a botched robbery and henchmen. Hope it wasn't a medical issue.

Very few outlets are providing an explanation, but this from Deadspin:
