I never said any of them was as good as or better than Jeter, just that your premise that NO ONE ELSE had ever played shortstop at an elite level for 17 years was fallacious. If you took the time to look stuff up instead of cribbing talking points from the Michael Kay Show you wouldn't get ridiculed so much around here.

It means those folks, in his opinion backed up by stats, are/were better than your buddy Jetes. Backing your stuff up with something other than "Jetes is teh best!!!1111" is something you've failed to do over and over again.

The bridge is apparently collecting many, many tolls tonight.

Here's board favorite Joe Posnanski on Jeter:

"Jeter burst into the league on the first Yankees team in almost 20 years to win a championship. He hit .314 and carried himself like a man who had done it all before, perhaps in another life. At 24, he led the league in runs and led the Yankees to 125 victories, the most any team has had from April through October. He should have been MVP. At 25, he was even better, he hit .349, scored and drove in 100. He should have been MVP again...his career has been a cavalcade of numbers: .343 average, 124 runs, 34 steals, 44 doubles, 97 RBIs, 212 hits, 23 homers, all achieved in different seasons. He is unquestionably one of the greatest hitting shortstops in baseball history"

He still sucks defensively and he was never any better than average. The fact that Captain Intangibles has any Gold Glove Awards to his credit is simply proof of what a joke the award has become.

Yes, he makes the plays on balls hit right to him. You could stick a good first baseman out there and get that. His range is terrible and was never a strength. We all know it. Even Manky. He just can't admit it.

We interrupt our nightly Mankybating for this bulletin: The Giants-Athletics interleague series is painful to watch. The Athlertics look that bad. If I'm a San Jose taxpayer, I'm asking my city council rep if we really want this?

This whole thing with Youkilis and the Red Sox is strange.

Valentine said he talked to him Friday, then pretty much backtracked and said he "thought he was spoken to." WTF?

What the hell is going on? I know it's been rumored Boston is shopping him to several teams, but why keep him out of the lineup three straight games?

The horrible thing about FOX's regional coverage is you are stuck with crap unless you know how to get around MLB.tv blackouts.

  9. Jorge Posada says that there has never been a Yankee as good in the 2 hole then Jeter.

There is a legitimate argument to be made at this point that the Red Sox are just better with Gonzalez at first, Ortiz at DH, Middlebrooks at third and Youkilis on the bench. It's not like Youkilis has been good when he has been in the lineup this season. He hasn't.

I guess I haven't paid much attention to them, outside the Youkilis talks. Didn't know Middlebrooks was as good as he is.
