SoSH is going apeshit over the two spare parts they got for Youkilis.

Stewart, a shitballer who has been traded twice in the last calendar year; and Lillibridge, a utility guy who's a career .215 hitter.

No question: different font, but the interlocking "SOX" comes from far before 1972. One can pretty easily tell that the only real difference between the 1972 home threads & the ones they began wearing in 1988 is color.

They had a lot of monstrosities in-between, though, ranging from gawdawful to, by the mid-1980s, just underinspiring.

Even with the long pants, those things were horrible.

The unis look even worse when you have a lefty trying to make a throw from third base.

When I went to see the Sox on Friday, Orlando Hudson was playing third base. Last time I looked, he was a 2B for the Padres.

Lillibridge is the ultimate trade throw-in. He was dealt from the Pirates to the Braves in the Adam LaRoche trade and was dealt from the Braves to the White Sox in the Javier Vazquez trade.

I don't think he's a throw-in. He's an extremely versatile utility player who hit 13 home runs last season. He was a top five prospect in the Braves organization at one point.

  10. The Youkilis trade makes me a little sad. It seems like just the other day that I was arguing with Casty on the original baseball thread about prospect Youk being capable of hitting 20 HR.

Now the baseball thread is all about give blow jobs to Derek Jeter.

The Red Sox are about to get some of their injured stock back. They were already second in MLB in runs scored with fill-ins. They have no need for a utility guy with a .283 career OBP.

Maybe Youkilis' value dropped that far. It just seems like a bad return.

According to a story I read yesterday, Lillibridge was a huge key to the deal for the Red Sox. Just the messenger. I don't follow them as closely as I follow the White Sox. But I do think you're being awfully dismissive of Lillibridge, who showed last year in the nearest thing he ever had to regular playing time that he could contribute at the major league level.
