C.C. Sabathia on the DL? ... Yeah, when Spider-Man flies out of his butt ...

WAR is designed to function on a sliding scale. You want it to be more than what it is.

If you think it's such a terrible metric, you come up with something better. We'll be waiting.

We have things that are better, statistics that measure what a player actually does without the subjectivity. They aren't perfect, but at least they aren't so badly flawed that they rate Brett Lawrie as the best player in baseball.

So......the Nationals have the best record in the NL, huh?

Yeah but they don't have Trout.

    Name something more efficient.

I agree it's hard not to snicker at this, or the stat nerds, that the shift could make WAR go haywire and the metric blow up in their faces. It's like when they used frog DNA to fill in part of the genetic code in Jurassic Park, and never thought that might lead to problems. But the burden is on the skeptics to come up with something better. If you don't, then you need to be quiet about how much you think it sucks, because WAR isn't going anywhere. If anything, this might cause the wonks to build it better.

Alas. How true. It sucks to be here and Trout-less.

You don't have Anthony Rizzo either. He's going to lead the Cubs to the playoffs...

I can tell you there's a palpable buzz around the stadium when Mike Trout takes the field.

(When 400 of his fans and friends make the trip in from New Jersey.)

Now, my question there is just what Anthony Rizzo has done to be considered the next big thing.

Sixth-round draft pick, third organization, .141 in 49 games in his first try ... I'm not seeing Harpertrout here.

Did I really need the blue font for that?
