Please explain the difference between velocity and mph - not being a wiseass. If there is one, I don't know it.

Hanrahan for Burnett (with Morgan and Milledge as throw ins) was one of those trades that worked out on both ends. Hanrahan needed a change of scenery. He has a ton of ability.

  2. You know . . . I think I've just heard it so often that I thought I knew the difference, but it may just be cliched baseball talk. What I THOUGHT it was was a rise in the fastball, as opposed to it just being a straight fastball. If it doesn't that's what I meant . . . Basically movement.

And, FWIW, I was surprised that Milledge never was offered anything to come back to the Bucs . . . I kind of liked him, but maybe a lot of that was potential that was never going to be realized. And that may have proven itself because I haven't heard his name since.

And please don't take my comments about Hanrahan wrong . . . i really like the guy, I'm just a bit concerned that there is an injury problem that hasn't been reported or something, because something is just different with the guy. Same kind of pitcher for a year and a half, then something seems different this season. But like I said, the numbers are there, it's just a perception thing with me. Beggars can;'t be choosers, especially with a Pirates fan. :)

If the Phillies actually would make a run here, I think that would just be such a statement for the importance of intangibles.

They've had, like, a cloud over their heads for three months. And if they get on a roll, and Halladay comes back strong, and Lee starts finishing off some Ws ... it could really have a snowball effect.

Which intangibles? I they get on a roll will it not just simply be good players are coming back and playing like good players?

And his wife is seeking alternatives.

Damn Giants just laid a horrible egg in DC. Up 5-1 in 7th and cannot even get to extra innings. Bullpen is looking very shaky without a reliable closer (Casilla seems to have run out of gas. Boy does Brian Wilson (2010 version) look good right now.)

If they make it back here, it will be about more than that. They will have to run off some streaks.

I am honestly not being snarky, I just don't know what you mean by intagibles and why them going on a streak would show the importance of them.

Inasmuch as they're intangibles, JC, they're rather fluid.

But when you get a big player back after a long absence, it seems to take on inflated importance to the team and their home crowd. If you catch the scene at Citizens Bank Park tonight, it's going to be buzzing. They feel like they have their eight-man lineup intact now, and they're going to be as good as before. That feeling alone, that swagger, can be worth a couple of wins.

At least, until they have to send Kyle Kendrick to the mound for another start.
